Abstract

915,341. Filters in parallel. MAY, G. July 21, 1959 [July 29, 1958; Oct. 8, 1958], No. 25006/59. Class 46. An annular filter element, Fig. 1, consists of inner and outer moulded rings 22, 24 in which the edges of an annular filter screen 20 are embedded, Fig. 3, and a series of ribs 26 in which radial portions of the screen are likewise embedded. Pairs of oppositely-disposed elements may be assembled in the manner of Fig. 2 around a spider 50, Fig. 14, integral with a threaded plate 46, between which a loose disc 52, the stack of elements may be compressed by screwing the plate 46 into a housing 40 adapted for inward flow. For outward flow an element has the same cross-section as Fig. 3, but 24 is the inner ring and 22 the outer. Preferably, in each case, the contacting outer rings of each pair of elements are joined by cementing or heat-sealing or by employing a binder, to form a two-element unit. In Figs. 10 and 11, elements of a somewhat different shape are shown. The outer ring 76A of element 70A, Fig. 10, has a series of downwardly-directed posts 84 which on assembly are located between corresponding posts 84B on the opposite element. Locking means 94 to prevent circumferential displacements are provided. Ribs 78, Fig. 11 (not shown on Fig. 10), are provided as before, and are on that face on which posts are not provided. The inner ends 80 of the ribs 78 are similarly inter-located and similarly provided with locking means. Radial displacement is prevented by a shoulder 82 at the outer end of each rib. As before, the elements may be modified for outward flow, and facing elements may be joined together in pairs.
