Abstract
The invention comprises 2-(51-nitrofurfurylidene - methyl) - 6 - amino - quinoline and acid-addition salts thereof. The compounds are prepared by hydrolysing, e.g. with an acidic agent, the group X in a compound of the formula <FORM:1035464/C2/1> in which X represents an acylamino group, and, if desired, converting a resulting acid-addition salt into the free base or converting the resulting free base into an acid addition salt. Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-bacterial activity, for enteral, parenteral or topical administration, comprise a compound of the invention together with a pharmaceutically suitable carrier. The compositions may be in the form of tablets, dragees, capsules, creams, ointments, solutions, suspensions or emulsions.ALSO:Disinfectant compositions comprise 2-(51-nitrofurfurylidene-methyl)-6-amino-quinoline, or an acid-addition salt thereof, together with a suitable carrier.
