Abstract
1,034,258. Hydraulically operated telescopic jib. DROTT MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. June 5, 1964 [June 24, 1963; April 20, 1964], No. 23465/64. Heading B8B. A telescopic jib for cranes has an outer section 10, Fig. 1, an intermediate section 16 and an end section 19 and is extended by a double hydraulic motor, within the jib, which ensures that the weaker end section is not extended before the intermediate section and is not retracted after the intermediate section. Pressure fluid supplied through a conduit 39, Fig. 2, acts on pistons 34, 37 and moves them to the right. A piston-rod 24 moves the intermediate section 16 with respect to the outer section 10, and a piston-rod 25 moves the end section 19 with respect to the section 16. By a suitable choice of dimensions for the'pistons the boom sections can be extended and retracted in any desired sequence. The end section may be extended after and retracted before the intermediate section, or both may be extended and retracted simultaneously and proportionately to maintain a balanced load on the sections. A drum 13, Fig. 1, which may be driven by an hydraulic motor, is provided for winding the load cable. The latter passes over a sheave in a block 14 or the end section of the boom.
