Abstract

1,033,506. Desks. SKRIVRIT A.B. May 8, [May 1962], No. 18163/63. Heading A4H. Desk legs which are jointly adjustable in height comprise threaded lower leg parts co-operatively engaged in internally threaded spindles 10 journalled in upper leg parts 2 by bevel gears 11 each of which engages a vertical bevel gear 14 having a non-circular central aperture non-rotatably mounted on a correspondingly-shaped end part of a drive shaft 17 which is rotated by a detachable handle 18. The bevel gears 11, 14 are maintained in engagement by shoulders 19 on the shaft and journal plates 12 secured to the outer side of each leg, the plate at the 1.h.s. of Fig. 3 receiving the hub of the bevel gear 14 and the plate at the r.h.s of the figure receiving an extension 15 keyed to or integral with the hub of the bevel gear 14 so that the bevel gears 14 rotate the spindles 10 in the same direction. The hub and extension 15 are placed in open-ended slots 13 in the plates 12, the slots being later closed by bending, by a pin, or by the desk plate 9 or adjustable stops thereon. The plate 12 is welded to an iron frame 5a embedded in a wooden frame which is attached to the leg parts 2, a desk box 7 being suspended from the frame 5a and a desk plate 8 having a lid hinged thereto is attached to the wooden frame. In modifications the hub extension 15 is not present, the spindle threads being of opposite hand, the spindles 10 being driven in opposite directions and both bevel gears 14 being mounted as shown at the 1.h.s. of Fig. 3, or in the modification shown, in Fig. 3, the handle is engageable with the end of the driving shaft 17 extended through the vertical bevel gear at the left hand side.
