Abstract
Substrates, especially paper and paper-board, are coated with a cooked starch which is contacted with an alkali metal stannate either before or after application. The coating may be applied either on-the-machine or off-the-machine. The stannate may be added to the coating composition or applied to the coated substrate by dipping or spraying. The starch may be either oxidized or unoxidized and is insolubilized by the process of the invention. The coating may be adhesive and the coated sheet may be laminated to a similar but uncoated sheet.ALSO:Substrates, especially paper and paperboard, are coated with a cooked starch which is contacted with an alkali metal stannate either before or after application.
