Abstract

<PICT:1024321/C1/1> A method of stoving a moving metal strip 1 coated with enamel, paint, varnish or the like on its upper surface 2 is heated on its lower surface by flames from gas burners 3 and has air from a supply pipe 7, which supports an upper cover plate 6, directed laterally over its upper surface to carry inflammable solvent vapours from the coating past the edge of the strip where they are burned by spilled flame from the burners. The combustion products are caught in flue openings 9 connected to a flue outlet 11, which gases may be water-cooled at 12, the water escaping through a drain 13. The gas flames may be replaced by the direct application of a highly heated stream of gas such as air, and separate ignition means may be provided for igniting the solvent vapours.
