Each moving contact bridge 22 of an electromagnetic contactor is mounted in an aperture 24 (Fig. 5) in its support 23 and arranged so that the bridge 22, its contact pressure spring 46 and retaining member 44 can be reversed in the aperture 24 to provide a normally closed contact arrangement (Fig. 6, not shown) instead of the normally open arrangement shown. Sides 42 of the U-shaped centre section of the bridge 22 engage the outer faces of member 44 which fits over the support 23 to positively prevent lateral movement of the contacts. The support 23 is secured by a pin 38 to the E-shaped armature 37 which co-operates with an E-shaped yoke 47 (Figs. 1 and 2) retained against posts 19 of base parts 11 by a spring 50 in a cover 48 retained by clips 49. The two base parts 11 are each recessed to accommodate the fixed contacts and terminals 16 and additional contact sets 52, 56 may be mounted on the sides of the structure. Keyhole slots 20 in the posts 19 receive guiding projections such as 29 of the moving contact support 23, and the armature and support are biased away from the yoke 47 by springs 30 between abutments 31 in the slots 20. The spring bias may be varied by reversal of a retainer 33 against which the upper abutments 31 are urged by the springs.
