Abstract
1,021,227. Cutting butter. J B. LOZACH. Nov. 14, 1962 [Nov. 15, 1961], No. 43138/62. Heading A4C. A machine for cutting frozen butter comprises a fixed hollow casing 3, an open topped cylindrical container 5 mounted for rotation about a vertical axis within the casing 3, apertured cutting means 16 secured to and forming the bottom of the container 5 for rotation therewith and a fixed blade 15 mounted within the container 5 to restrict rotation of the butter 9 in operation, the arrangement being such that butter 9 is fed through a hopper 13 and under its own weight against the rotary cutter 16 and cut fragments pass through the apertures therein. The cutting means 16 is detachable, e.g. by a keyhole slot attachment, and as shown comprises a disc with radial slits each having one side formed as a cutting edge. Alternatively the cutting disc may be formed with holes and may have either a smooth or a rasp-like face in contact with the butter. In another embodiment (Fig. 8 not shown), the cutting means has a conical rather than disc-like form. The cutting means 16 carries a blade 21 which forces the cut butter through an apertured plate 18 releasably mounted therebeneath in a discharge spout 17. The container 5 is supported on centred by its annular flange engaging rollers 7, 8 and is motor-driven through a belt 10.
