Abstract

The invention comprises a process for cleaning textile materials, insulating materials and metals using a composition containing a major proportion of trans-dichloroethylene and a minor proportion of ethyl bromide, methylene chloride or a trifluoro-trichloro-ethane or of any mixture of two or more of these components which suppress the flash-point of the transdichlorethylene. Preferably the compositions contain at least 15% by weight of 1,1,2-trifluoro 1,2,2-trichloroethane and less than 1% by weight of a surface-active agent, e.g. a mixture of an alkaryl sulphonate and non-ionic constituent. Example 4 refers to the addition of 0.1% by weight of water to the composition containing surface-active agents to remove water-soluble spots.
