Abstract

1,018,596. Testing gas for particle content. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. July 30, 1964, No. 30236/64. Heading BIT. [Also in Division F1] A filter-paper disc 16 is clamped between the wide ends of funnel members 13, 17 and a hand-operated piston pump 1, 2 draws gas in through a probe 20 and through the filter 16, which filter is subsequently compared with standards using a photometer to indicate the particle content of the gas. The pump includes a one-way valve 14, 15 at one end, and another one-way valve comprising cup-shaped leather washer 3 on the piston. A clip 21 holds a length of flexible tube, which in use connects probe 20 with an I.C. engine exhaust pipe, for testing exhaust gases.
