Abstract

A composition comprises a normally liquid material containing as thickener polyoxymethylene fibres of length 50 microns or less and having a length to diameter ratio greater than 10 to 1. the polyoxymethylene having been produced by polymerization initiated by irradiation, and, as co-thickener, a finely-divided solid material other than a silica aerogel. The co-thickener may be natural or modified silica or clay, asbestos, mica, talc, diatomaceous earth, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, oxidized polyethylene or nylon of particle size 10 millimicrons to 50 microns and the ratio of fibre to cothickener from 95: 5 to 5:95. The liquid material may be a liquid polyester, a liquid polyepoxide or a liquid polyepoxide containing a hardener while the thickening material may comprise 0 to 5% of the composition.
