Abstract

840,630. Metallic tubes. MARSTON EXCELSIOR Ltd. June 16, 1958 [March 27, 1957; July 12, 1957], Nos. 9980/57 and 22128/57. Class 99(2). Composite tubes are made by drawing one or more fabric sleeves 2, 3, 4, on to a metal tube 1 e.g. of titanium or titanium-based alloy, which is to form part of the composite tube, impregnating the sleeves with a resin before or after they are drawn on to the metal tube and then curing the resin. The sleeves 2 ... 4 may be of knitted or woven construction and of glass fibre, nylon, "Terylene " (Registered Trade Mark) or cotton and impregnants such as polyester, epoxy or phenolic resins are used to which inert fillers, e.g. chalk or silica, can be added to impart special characteristics such as thixotropy.
