Abstract
1,015,306. Heat exchangers. BENDIX CORPORATION. May 28, 1964 [June 5, 1963], No. 22119/64. Heading F4S. A easing 10 contains a plurality of spacedapart baffles 42, 44, 46, defining chambers filled with pellets 28, through which a plurality of spaced-apart tubes 40 extend longitudinally within the casing, the mass of pellets and tubes being joined by suitable brazing material. Each chamber has its own loading port through which the pellets are introduced, each port normally being sealed by a cap. The baffles are shaped so as to guide a heat exchange fluid entering an inlet port along a tortuous path, substantially transversely to the tubes, on its way to an exit port. Another heat exchange fluid enters one end of the casing, is guided into tubes 40 by the rounded openings in plate 32, into which the tubes are recessed, and is discharged from the other end of the casing. A pair of V-shaped metal plates 58 provided with stamped slots 60 (Fig. 4, not shown) is arranged in each chamber between the baffles. The pellets may be of uniform or non-uniform size and made of the same material from which the tubes are made, e.g. aluminium.
