Abstract

Materials containing polyester and/or cellulonic fibres (particularly cellulose triacetate) are dyed (using reactive or disperse dyes) and waterproofed simultaneously in an aqueous bath containing an alkaline catalyst, a dye or mixture of dyes, a silicone water-proofing agent and when the cellulonic material is not cellulose triacetate a resin composition which imparts crease resistant properties to the cellulose. After impregnation the fabrics are squeezed and dried followed by curing at temperatures above 100 DEG C. The preferred waterproofing agent is methyl hydrogen polysiloxane as 1/2 -5% by weight of the fabric. Sodium sesquicarbonate, bicarbonate, carbonate and ettanolamine are used as alkaline reagents.
