Abstract

1,007,066. Container closures. BOUCHON RAPID. Oct. 25, 1963 [Dec. 22, 1962], No. 42154/63. Heading B8T. A metallic capsule for bottles and like containers has radial lugs 12, 14 and 15 formed by cuts 18 and 19. part in the skirt and part in the top of the capsule, extending from points short of the free edge 20 of said skirt towards the centre of said top, and at least one circular groove 22 formed in said top and intersecting the inner ends of said lugs. On crimping the capsule on to a bottle, the setting of the pleated skirt causes the inner ends of the lugs 12, 14 and 15 to be bent slightly upwards to a position from which they may easily be lifted and torn off to remove the capsule. The capsule may be used with a gasket to give tighter sealing. The gasket of Fig. 11 is a plastics flanged cup with the flange connected to the cup by means of a circular fillet 36 and by means of a groove 39, together providing a flexible hinge between the flange and the cup. To facilitate the removal of the gasket a circular tear-off line 47 may be provided which when torn leaves a gripping ring. The gasket may also be a disc formed with an integral depending cylindrical sleeve, the outer edge of the disc being formed with a bead or being connected to an external skirt over which the capsule fits. The top of the capsule may be provided with a plurality of concentric grooves, the main groove in all cases having an outer diameter approximately equal to the inner diameter of the bottle neck.
