Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1005737/C2/1> wherein R represents the nitro, arylazo, alkoxy-carbonylamin or aralkoxycarbonylamino group or a group of the formula -N = CH-R1, where R1 represents a phenyl or alkyl or alkoxy substituted phenyl group and Ac represents an acyl residue, and the preparation thereof by reacting compound of the formula <FORM:1005737/C2/2> with an acylating agent. 4 - (41 - Benzenesulphonamido) - 5,6 - dimethoxypyrimidine is prepared by reacting 4-amino-5,6-dimethoxypyrimidine with p-nitrobenzene-sulphonyl chloride and hydrolysing the resulting 4 - (bis - 41 - nitrobenzenesulphonamido) - 5,6 - di-methoxypyrimidine, or by reacting 4,6-dichloro-5 -methoxypyrimidine with sodium p-nitrobenzenesulphonate and treating the resulting 4 - (41 - nitrobenzenesulphonamido) - 5 - methoxy-6 - chloropyrimidine with sodium methoxide. 4 - (41 - Benzylideneaminobenzenesulphonamido) - 5,6 - dimethoxypyrimidine is prepared by reacting 4-sulphanilamide-5,6-dimethoxypyrimidine with benzaldehyde.
