Abstract
1,003,423. Cargo lifting apparatus. LANSING BAGNALL Ltd. Sept. 20, 1963 [June 22, 1962], No. 24178/62. Heading B8H. Apparatus for conveying cargo from a ship's hold to its deck comprises an extensible guide fixed in the hold and mounting a load carriage having a load engaging device pivotal and extendable from the carriage. A hatchway 13 of a hold 12 has channel members 14 forming guides for an extensible mast 20 on which a load carriage 26 is slidable mounted and which is connected by chains 33 to a cross member of the mast 20. A plate 96 of the carriage has a hollow column 97 in which another column 98 is extensibly and rotatably supported and which mounts a jib 99 having extensible parts 101, 102 the latter having a hook 103. By means of a piston and cylinder device the carriage 26 is first raised to the top of the mast 20 which is then raised on the members 17 so that the load is raised above the deck on which it can be positioned by extending and pivoting the jib 99. In a modification a plate corresponding to the plate 96 mounts a further plate carrying vertically pivotal lifting forks and pivotal on a vertical axis. The apparatus may be used for raising cargo from the deck to a helicopter platform.
