Abstract

1,003,358. Pneumatic conveyers. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE. Sept. 27, 1963 [Oct. 24, 1962], No. 38132/63. Heading B8A. In a method of regulating the injection of powdered coal into the tuyere 2, Fig. 2, of a blast furnace from a fluidized hopper 6 through multiple outlets 9, the difference between the pressure in the hopper 6 and that at the circular blast pipe 5 is maintained at a constant value. In the example of Fig. 2 which is applied to a hopper 6 having provision for intermittently re-filling from a storage hopper 21 through a lock reservoir 19 a differential manometer 18 is connected on one side to the blast pipe. 5 and has alternative connections on the other side through valves 31 and 32 to the hopper 7 and lock resrevoir 19 so that the pressure differential may be maintained when the hopper 7 is being filled through valve 23. A regulator 17 coupled to the manometer 18 controls the opening and closing of air supply and exhaust valves 15, 16 which also have alternative connections through valves 28, 29 to the hopper 7 or lock reservoir 19. A diaphragm valve 12 in association with a differential manometer 13 operates through a regulator 14 and a valve 11 to control the flow of carrier gas.
