Abstract

L'invention concerne l'obtention et l'utilisation d'un catalyseur pour l'hydrogénation, en phase liquide, de l'acétophénone en phényl-méthyl-carbinol. Exprimée en oxydes, la composition du catalyseur consiste essentiellement en a. un chromite de cuivre-baryum contenant 30-55 % en poids de CuO, 30-57 % en poids de Cr2 O3 et jusqu'à 16 % en poids de BaO, et b. 1 à 13 % en poids de ZnO et éventuellement aussi 0,15 à 1,7 % en poids de MgO (pour 100 % en poids du chromite). Le catalyseur a une meilleure résistance à l'écrasement et une grande sélectivité. Pastillé, il peut constituer un lit fixe d'un réacteur d'hydrogénation. La déshydratation du phényl-méthyl-carbinol donne du styrène, qui est un intermédiaire de synthèse.
