Abstract

The bomb release gear of an aircraft uses an explosive charge to extend a telescopic piston (13a, 13b, 13c) which pushes the bomb away from the aircraft. After the release of the bomb, the telescopic piston is retracted by a cable (20) which passes around the end of the outer section of the piston. Each end of the cable passes through a guide hole and is then attached to a compression spring which is mounted horizontally inside the release gear (1). The spring force retracts the telescopic piston as soon as the explosive force has been dissipated.
