Abstract
1,159,323. Anchoring grounded aircraft. UNITED AIRCRAFT OF CANADA Ltd. 25 Jan., 1968 [5 Dec., 1967], No. 3956/68. Heading B7G. [Also in Division E2] A device for anchoring a body, e.g. a helicopter to a flight deck having T-slots, comprises a tube 40 extending from the body at 12 housing a set of dogs 80 . . . 84, a pin 94 movable along the tube to spread the dogs to a fastening position (shown in Fig. 7), and a retaining device, e.g. a ring 88, to retain the dogs in a non- fastening position, and being movable, e.g. upwards by striking the flight deck shown in broken lines, Fig. 7, to release the dogs to allow them to be spread by the pin. In the embodiment shown the pin 94, is retracted by an hydraulic jack 118 acting via a cable 106 and a rod 102, resulting in the following. The pin 94 is retracted from between the dogs 80 ... 84 into the tube 40 compressing a spring 99. This allows the dogs to be pivoted about pins 78 by the ring 88 urged downwardly by a spring 90. The tube 40 is then retracted into an outer tube 38 in the helicopter fuselage compressing a spring 44. In the event of failure of hydraulic power the pulley 108 can be turned by hand (crank 128). The cable 106 may be severed by a small guillotine 117 in emergency.
