Abstract
The puller head is used to handle and lay pipes and has three hydraulically powered tracked units (I, II, III) spaced at 120 deg. intervals around the pipe circumference. These tracked units are located in a frame (1) which also contains the hydraulic power group. Each tracked unit comprises an endless roller chain (6a) driven by an internal toothed wheel and carrying replaceable gripper pads. They can be adjusted for pipe diameter and pulley force by means of hydraulic rams (8a). All tracked units are interconnected by levers (9a, 9b, 10a, 10b) operated together by meshing gear segments (30a, 30b). These move all units equally, in or out, to compensate for pipe variations.
