Abstract
Appts. for contacting a gas with a liq. consists of an inclined perforated screen down which the liq. is cascaded, under gravity as the gas blows through it and recycled as a thin, turbulent film. The liq. should be non-foaming and the life of a bubble in the liq. should be 1 sec. A froth inhibiting agent can be added to the liq. At least part of the gas stream can be recycled. Pref. the screen consists of a perforated plate of rectangular shape with a large no. of holes, inclined at an angle of 45 degrees-60 degrees to the vertical. Provides a simple and cheap constant system of contact which does not involve a high pressure drop on the gas side.
