Abstract

A method of gas chromatographic analysis of samples operates by breadking down the sample in a separation column into its separate constituents or compounds, so that these leave the column in succession; the constituents or compounds are identified in a detector, the detector signals being recorded in the form of a graph on a moving chromatogram sheet, the graph having peaks corresponding to the separate cpds. A partial stream is branched off from the flow leaving the separation column and is directed towards a support strip which is moved synchronously with the chromatogram sheet. This support strip pref. has a coating of an absorbing material. Pref., the support strip is of Al foil coated with alumina or silica gel. The method enables a direct comparison to be made between the peaks, indicating individual features on the chromatogram and the corresponding portions of material retained on the strip.
