Abstract

Analysis of substances labelled with H3 esp substances labelled with H3 and C14 is carried out by burning the sample; passing the combustion gases over a material of the contact catalyst type, esp a substance contg. active H atoms, such as hydrated Al oxide or Al silicate, which binds water vapour molecules, whereas labelled CO2 (if C14 is present) is led into a device measuring radioactivity of gases. Subsequently, the water molecules are eluted from the adsorbent pref. with H2, and the resulting gas stream is led to the radioactivity measuring device to determine the H3 content. The measurements are accurate and can be carried out automatically.
