Abstract

Three alternative sections for multilayer sheet incorporating layers of ionomer resin, Al foil, polyethylene and cartion. The ionomer pref. has a salt value of 1.0-2.0 associated with a monovalent cation, a density >=0.938 g/cc and an oxygen permeability of =8000 cc/m2/24h/25 x 10-3/atm. or, for some layers, a salt value 0.2-1.0, a bivalent cation, a density of 0.932-0.940 and a permeability of 7000. Polyethylenes used as 0.922-0.934 g/cc with O2 permeability =3500; or as =0.920 g/cc with permeability =10000. The salt laden ionomer surfaces are resistant to oil, the Al layer acts as a light and O2 barrier, and the carton provides strength and a good surface for printing.
