Abstract

Macromolecular phenol/aldehyde condensates are formed by reacting the components at is not >80 degrees C with continuous monitoring of temp. and cooling when necessary and treating the starting phenol with an alkaline salt to form a phenate which is initially condensed with the aldehyde (linear or cyclic) at room temp. then at is approx. 75 degrees C neutralising the condensate and hardening by rapid treatment with an acid medium.
