1368380 Stays; operating windows; alternative movement windows A MARGUELISCH 20 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 53628/72 Headings E1J E2F and E2M In a retaining device for a leaf or panel 1 (e.g. a window) pivotable on a stationary frame 2 about at least one horizontal and at least one vertical axis, the device comprises a retaining arm 7 articulated at one end 8 to the panel 1 and at the other end has an armengaging member in the form of a slidable shaft 9 extending through a button hole opening 12 in the lower end of the arm 7. When the panel is in its closed position (Fig. 3) the retaining arm 7 takes up a vertical position and when the panel is pivoted about a horizontal axis at the top of the frame the panel assumes the inclined position shown in Fig. 1. When the panel 1 is pivoted about an upper horizontal axis, as shown in Fig. 1, a handle 6 is operated to move a chain 5 which operates rotatable members 3 each mounted on one of the corners of the stationary frame 2. The chain 5 is provided with at least one cam 14 which is adapted to actuate a spring-loaded sleeve 13 and allow the slidable shaft 9, clawed to the sleeve, to be moved to the position shown in Fig. 4 and enable the arm 7 to retain the panel in an open position. A ball device 16 located in the frame of the panel 1 is provided to form an abutment member for the arm 7 when the panel is pivoted about its upper horizontal axis, the device being inoperative when the panel 1 is pivoted about its lower horizontal axis. The panel 1 may be pivoted about its vertical or horizontal axes by suitable adjustment of the four rotatable corner members 3.
