A ferrite head, intended for video-frequency signals is so proportioned that: (a) the area of the window 4 is h and 9h = 9α##l À # (b) the gap-depth d#l and (c) the cross-sectional area k of the coil 5a is given by 0À4h#k. In all the embodiments described, Fig. 2 (and Figs. 3-7, not shown) there is only one coil 5a facing up-stream relative to the tape movement and a conducting plate 9 on one or both sides of the core members conducts away any electrostatic charges created by tape-friction which otherwise might reach troublesome levels where the ferrite is of high electrical resistance.
