Abstract
A capacitor 20 in the phase winding 16 of a single-phase induction motor is connected to the supply 14 through two rectifiers 22, 24 connected in opposition, one of which is a thyristor. As shown, triggering voltage is produced across an impedance 26 by the main winding current when this drops with the attainment of running speed the voltage is insufficient to trigger and so the capacitor 20, being energized through rectifier 22 only, is rendered inoperative. The impedance 26 may be replaced by an impulse transformer. The phase winding may continue to be energized after starting through a " run " capacitor 18.
