Abstract

A cap made in one piece for a bottle having a screw-threaded neck is adapted to be crimped both around the screw-thread and below the lower edge of the screw-thread and comprises an intermediate weakened portion 5 which is broken when the cap is unscrewed for the first time and a skirt 6 adapted to contact the neck of the bottle below the screw-thread, the skirt having a height at least equal to the height of the rest of the cap. The cap has a groove 3 to hold a seal in place and approximately a third of the way down the cap is a line of perforations 5 below which is a skirt 6. When the cap is in position on the bottle, the portion between the groove 3 and the perforations 5 coincides with the screw-thread on the bottle and the screw-thread and a constriction 7 on the cap are formed by knurling the walls of the cap against the bottle. When the bottle is opened by breaking the weakened portion the cover remains on the neck but in a modification the skirt has vertical incisions ending at the weakened portion which allow the skirt to be torn away after breaking the cap seal.
