Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a security paper for banknotes, securities, checks, ID cards or the like, with a superficial application of paint containing iridescent pigments, which changes its color when the viewing angle changes.
  • the invention further relates to a method for producing such security paper.
  • the color application is intended to achieve a variable optical impression of the surface of the security paper from different angles, which is particularly difficult to reproduce with modern color copying machines.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a security paper of the type mentioned, in which the color application is almost invisible in more or less direct supervision, but is clearly and unambiguously recognizable when viewed from an oblique angle and is not reproduced or at least falsified when color copied. This object is achieved by a security paper with the features specified in claim 1.
  • At least two simultaneously recognizable surface areas are provided with color applications which contain different iridescent pigments and which, when viewed from at least one oblique viewing angle area, have a different color.
  • the different color changes of the at least two can be made clearly recognize different color applications.
  • the difference in the color changes of the different color applications is therefore essential for the recognizability of the color change with a change in the viewing angle. It goes without saying that at least two different color applications always contribute to the desired effect and the corresponding surface areas must therefore be arranged in such a way that they can be perceived by the viewer together.
  • the surface areas provided with the different, iridescent paint applications are arranged at a distance from one another and / or the color transitions are fluid.
  • the difference in the color changes of the different color applications can be seen particularly clearly, however, if the surface areas are directly adjacent to one another, the color transition between the different color applications is additionally sharp and / or instead of only two, three or more such surface areas are adjacent to one another.
  • their areal expansion must not be too small. So the impression of a finely structured pattern must not be created.
  • the surface area of the surface areas must not be too large. If there are more than two directly adjacent strips, the width should not be less than 0.5 cm for the reasons mentioned, but also not more than 5 cm.
  • Fig. 1 denotes a security paper according to the invention. Paint is applied to the surface of the paper substrate in the form of three immediately adjacent strips 2, 3 and 4 which are sharply delimited from one another.
  • the color application of all three strips contains iridescent pigments. In direct supervision, it is not or only slightly recognizable. However, the color application of the three stripes differs in terms of the type of pigments they contain. These are chosen so that the three stripes are one from the other when viewed from an oblique viewing angle have different colors (e.g. red, blue and green, compared to yellow when viewed vertically). The color transition between the stripes is sharp.
  • Mica flakes provided with a metal oxide coating such as in particular TiO2 are used as pigments.
  • the different color effects result from different layer thicknesses of the metal oxide coating on the mica platelets.
  • other iridescent pigments could also be used.
  • So-called IRIODIN pigments from MERCK or MEARLIN chandelier pigments from MEARL are particularly suitable.
  • the entire surface of the security paper 1 could also be provided with color applications.
  • Several groups of strips could also be applied at a distance from one another.
  • the width of the stripes should not be greater than approximately 5 cm and not less than approximately 0.5 cm.
  • a strip width of about 1 cm is preferred.
  • other geometric shapes are of course also possible. Strips are recommended, however, because of the possibility of applying them on long strips.
  • strips that are sharply delimited from one another and yet directly adjacent can be easily transferred to paper webs.
  • the iridescent pigments are worked up with transparent binders to make coating colors, whereby a binder proportion between 5 and 95% can be set.
  • the coating colors worked up in this way are then passed from above onto metering stations with spaced apart, pipette-like metering tips, three of which are shown in FIG. 3 and are designated by 5, 6 and 7, with fine circumferential grooves or cups
  • Application roller 8 applied selectively.
  • the coating colors are distributed independently on the rotating application roller 8, resulting in widening flow paths, as shown in FIG. 3.
  • the coating colors are then transferred from the application roller 8 to a web of security paper 1, which runs, for example, between the application roller 8 and a pressure roller 9.
  • the geometry of the applicator roller, the width of its circumferential grooves or cells (much smaller than the desired width of the ink stripes) and its circumferential speed, the coating color rheology, the mutual distance between the metering tips and the metering of the coating colors are coordinated with one another in such a way that those from the various metering stations 5 to 7 originating coating colors on the application roller 8 just come into contact with one another, but without running into one another (FIG. 3).
  • Fig. 4 shows another, somewhat modified method for applying sharply delimited and yet directly adjacent strips on a paper web 1.
  • thin segment walls 10 are provided, which are close together nestle the application roller.
  • the different coating colors are applied to the paper web (or to the paper web via the application roller) in such a way that a small so-called ink sump, which extends across the entire width of the inlet zones, results directly in front of the application roller .
  • the segment walls prevent the different colors from running into each other before the application roller.
  • the coating colors are distributed homogeneously on the paper web 1 by the application roller.
  • the applicator roller can advantageously again be provided with grooves or cups or fluted. However, it could also be smooth.
  • thermoplastic binder is used as the binder.
  • Plastic foils or specially treated paper such as e.g. Silicon release paper.
