Abstract

A piston pump for dosing flowable substances, for example disinfectant, liquid soaps or creams, has a permanently spring-loaded piston (1) which has a radial groove (2) in which an axially displaceable annular valve element (3) is arranged. In the rest position of the piston (1), the annular valve element (3) is pressed with the aid of the return spring (15) against a circumferential stop ring (6) arranged in the cylinder. By virtue of this arrangement, fluid-tight sealing of the pump is achieved, thus preventing afterdribble in an effective way. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a piston pump for metering flowable substances, for example disinfectants, liquid soaps or creams, with a permanently spring-loaded hollow piston, which has a radial groove at its rear end with one or more passage openings, an annular, elastic, axially displaceable in the groove Valve element is arranged, which, when the piston is actuated, lies sealingly and slidably on the cylinder wall, during the pressure stroke it opens a passage opening for the substance to be conveyed, which blocks it during the suction stroke.

A known piston pump of this type is described in US Patent 3,187,960. This piston pump is constructive and therefore also technically complicated and expensive. The possibilities in the choice of materials are very limited, a metal version, for example, would be enormously complex and therefore uneconomical. This in turn results in a limitation of the area of application of this pump with regard to the substances to be pumped. Particularly problematic are low-viscosity substances that like to drip if the valve element does not seal reliably in the end position of the piston.

Another known piston pump is described in U.S. Patent 3,257,961.

The invention is therefore based on the object of greatly simplifying a piston pump of the type mentioned at the outset in terms of construction and production technology and reliably sealing the pump so that it does not drip even when pumping low-viscosity substances.

According to the invention this object is achieved in that a sleeve is positively inserted into the cylinder. This sleeve has a radially circumferential constriction which serves as a stop for the valve element which, in the initial position of the piston, lies against the constriction and blocks the passage openings.

With this design, the pressure of the return spring is used to press the valve element sealingly between the piston and the constriction of the sleeve.

An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to Figures 1 and 1a, which show a longitudinal section of a piston pump according to the invention.

The hollow piston (1) is closed at its rear end and there has a radial groove (2) in which an O-ring (3) is axially displaceable, the outer diameter of which is larger than that of the piston. In the groove (2) one or more passage openings (4) are provided which open into the interior of the piston (1).

A sleeve (6), which is provided with a radially circumferential constriction (7a), is inserted into the cylinder (5a) in a form-fitting manner and sealed with an O-ring (6a). The constriction (7a) obtained by deforming the sleeve forms a circumferential annular groove (10) on the outside of the sleeve, which receives the O-ring (6a). The circumferential constriction (7a) separates the cylinder (5a) into two cylinder spaces, the cylinder diameter remaining the same on both sides of the constriction (7a). The piston (1) is sealed in the upper cylinder chamber (7) using a piston ring (14) guided. The return spring (9) is clamped between the cylinder base (12) and the piston (1) in the lower cylinder chamber (8) and is constantly under tension.

Another exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to FIGS. 2 and 2a, which in turn shows a longitudinal section of a piston pump according to the invention.

The piston (1) corresponds to that described in FIG. 1. A sleeve (6) is inserted in the front section of the stepped cylinder (5a) in which the piston (1) is guided tightly using a piston ring (14). The sleeve (6) has a collar (7b) at its front end and an inner circumferential constriction (7a) at its rear end, which forms the stop.

The original diameter difference of the stepped cylinder (5a) is compensated for by the sleeve (6) used, so that the cylinder diameter is the same size on both sides of the constriction (7a).

A return spring (9) is clamped between the cylinder base (12) and the piston (1) and is constantly under tension.
