Es ist bekannt, Maschinenportale auf Kugeln oder Walzen zu lagern, um die Reibung des Maschinenportals auf den Gleitschienen herabzusetzen und um eine genaue Maschinenportalführung zu erreichen (OS 33 13 128, OS 34 15 197). Das Maschinenportal wird von Zahnrädern oder Schnecken angetrieben, die in Zahnstangen eingreifen und ein spielfreies Einstellen des Arbeitskopfes gestatten (DAP 252516). Ein Maschinenportal 1, das einen Arbeitskopf 2 trägt, ist auf einer Seite neben einem Maschinentisch 3 wie bereits bekannt, mit einer Kugelführung 4 mit Kugelumlauf auf einer Schiene 5 gelagert. In eine aus bekannten Zahnstangensegmenten aufgebaute Zahnstange 8 greift ein das Maschinenportal 1 auf dieser Seite antreibendes Zahnrad 9 ein. Auf der anderen Seite des Maschinentisches 3 befindet sich eine aus Zahnstangensegmenten 10 aufgebaute Zahnstange 11. Beim Montieren der Zahnstangen 11 entstehen zwischen den Zahnstangensegmenten 10 Fugen 14, die nur an der Rückseite der Zahnstange 11 durch die die Fugen 14 überbrückenden Nasen 15 geschlossen werden.
