Description

Use of copper alloys for welding electrodes and switch contacts The 736,395 patent discloses the use of an alloy to make switch contacts or welding electrodes are described, which are made of a copper-cadmium alloy with i until 10 ° / o C: admittm exists. The main patent also provides for the same Purpose of the copper-cadmium alloy with i to io% cadmium an addition of o, i to give up to 5 ° / o gold, silver, aluminum, beryllium, magnesium, and tin.

The invention achieves a considerable improvement in the alloy suitable for contacts and welding electrodes, which is particularly important when used for air switches. It has been found that an addition of boron to the cadmium alloys used in the main patent 736395 has a particularly favorable effect on the deionization of the arc in addition to a grain refinement. The contacts always remain bare due to the addition of boron, as it prevents copper oxides from sticking to the contact surfaces. The service life of such contacts made of copper-cadmium alloys with the addition of boron is thereby increased without the conductivity being impaired.
