In diesen Cylinder mündet das Abfallrohr c, welches man vortheilhaft bis unter den mittleren Wasserstand führt, um so einen Abschlufs gegen das Aufsteigen von Gasen in dem Abfallrohr zu bilden. Das obere Ende des Cylinders b ist durch einen Deckel d verschlossen. Von hier aus wird das Desinfectionsmittel (Chlorkalk oder dergleichen) eingeschüttet, welches sich dem im Cylinder befindlichen Wasser mittheilt, hier aber zunächst stehen bleibt. Die frischen Fäkalien, welche durch das Abfallrohr c in den Cylinder gelangen, haben das Bestreben, nach der Oberfläche aufzusteigen, wo sie von dem mit dem Desinfectionsmittel stark geschwängerten Wasser durchtränkt werden, ehe sie zu Boden sinken. Es tritt mithin eine jeweilige ausgiebige Desinfection der frischen Abfallstoffe ein und kann zu diesem Zwecke das Desinfectionsmittel beliebig oft erneuert werden, da der Cylinder bequem zugänglich ist und es nur eines einfachen Einschüttens bedarf.A cylinder b of any cross-section is inserted into the cesspool α in such a way that it cuts off at the top with the ceiling of the pit, but on the other hand is only immersed 40 to 50 cm at a mean water level, so that the water of the cesspool can still pass freely even with high sludge deposits to allow in the cylinder.
