Description

The furnishing of increasingly smaller bathrooms creates new problems in the design of sanitary facilities, which must be installed within smaller spaces without losing their functionality.

This is particularly the case with bathtubs and shower cubicles, which - being large in size and very different from each other - are difficult to coordinate with each other without wasting space or using totally unreasonable arrangements, especially in terms of wasteful design.

DE - U - 87 02 390 discloses a bathtub whose opposite shorter sides, corresponding to the head position and the foot position, have an angular shape, preferably with an angle of 90º.

The shape of the shorter sides allows the bathtub to be positioned with one of the shorter sides adjacent to the angle between two walls of the bathroom.

This position creates a triangular area adjacent to one of the longer sides of the bathtub in which a shower cubicle could be placed.

However, the above solution has functional and practical drawbacks, due to the completely separate construction of the bathtub and the shower cabin, whose shower tray is additionally formed by the same bathroom floor.

The above disadvantages are overcome according to the invention by a unit according to the independent claim, the preamble of which is based on the features of DE - U - 87 02 390.

The unit according to the invention is essentially formed by housing assemblies made of synthetic material, such as methacrylic acid ester, which are joined together and partially superimposed to form both the Bathtub and shower tray, with the axis of the bathtub substantially parallel to a diagonal of the unit.

The advantages and peculiarities of the invention will become clearer from the following detailed description with reference to the attached drawing, in which:

The invention comprises a unit of substantially rectangular or square plan, the unit comprising a lower base 1 on which an upper housing assembly 2 is placed.

There, in the upper housing arrangement 2, a bathtub 3 is provided, which is essentially located with its axis parallel to a plan diagonal of the lower base 1, with a horizontal surface extending from its upper edge.

This surface has a first angular region 4 which fills a corner through which the other diagonal passes.

The first angled area 4 accommodates a feed tap 5 and its operating lever 6.

A second angled area 7 opposite the first angled area 4 accommodates a shower tray 8.

Both areas 4 and 7 border on the long sides of the bathtub 3.

The upper housing assembly 2 is recessed near the side of the bathtub in the second angled portion 7 to form the shower tray 8 of a shower cubicle 9.

The shower tray 8, when shown in plan, is essentially of a triangular, trapezoidal or circular sector shape or a composite shape.

One side of the shower cubicle 9 is delimited by a tiled wall 10 of the room in which the unit according to the invention is installed.

Other walls 11 and 12 of the cabin are bordered by acrylic glass panels (Perspex) which are supported by a conventional frame 13.

One of these walls, namely wall 11, has the access door to the cabin.

At the edge of the bathtub in the second angled area 7, a common sealant is provided along the connection lines between the upper housing assembly 2 and the common frame 13 which supports the walls 11 and 12.

In the example shown, the unit according to the invention fills a floor space of more than 180 cm x 150 cm and can be installed between two or three walls of the bathroom.

Shape changes can obviously be made according to the invention, for example some corners of the housing arrangements 1 and 2 can be rounded in plan or other corners can be made more acute, without departing from the scope of the inventive idea as claimed below.

Claims (2)

1. Unit comprising a bath tub, at least one of the short sides of the bath tub being shaped as an angle and the bath tub - when arranged in a corner of the unit - delimiting two triangular areas adjacent to the long sides, the areas intended to accommodate a shower cubicle and the taps, characterized in that the unit comprises a lower base (1) of a substantially rectangular or square plan on which an upper housing assembly (2) is placed, that the housing assembly (2) comprises a bath tub (3) whose longitudinal axis is parallel to the plan diagonal of the base (1), a first angled area (4) at the level of the edge of the bath tub adjacent to one long side of the bath tub for accommodating taps and their operating levers and a second angled low-lying area (7) adjacent to the other long side of the bath tub forming the shower tray (8). 2. Unit according to claim 1, characterized in that at least one side of the shower tray (8) adjoins a wall of the bathroom which forms a wall of a shower cubicle (9), the other walls (11, 12) of which comprise acrylic glass panels (Perspex) supported by a ordinary frame (13) and come to rest on the edge of the long side of the bathtub (3) and on the edge of the shower tray (8).
