Description
Rendering harmless combustibles contained in roasting gases or the like Contact poisons, especially arsine. B. of zinc blends on Dwight-Lloyd sintering plants and the like, must be possible be expected that contact poisons arise, z. B. arsine. The education z. B. of arsine is due to the fact that sulfuric acid, which in the pipelines from the gases with a high water content after leaving the roaster forms, on the iron of the pipes acts with evolution of hydrogen. The emerging Hydrogen reduces arsenic trioxide contained in the gases and forms with elemental Arsenic under the prevailing temperature conditions arsine. This leaves After the gases have cooled down, they do not eliminate themselves in any way, but come harmful through combustion in the contact substance.
According to the invention, these interfering components of the gas are thereby eliminated eliminates the need to use the arsenic-containing gas from a Dwight-Lloyd apparatus into a mechanical roasting furnace or other metallurgical furnace that either for the pre-roasting of the blown material, which is ready-roasted on the Dwight apparatus or any other purpose. Arsine e.g. B. is here burned at the high temperature prevailing in the furnace in question. That Gas then contains the arsenic again as arsenic trioxide, the rest = los before entering the contact apparatus can be knocked down by well known means.
To prevent a reversion to arsine, it is necessary to on the further path of the gases to create conditions that allow condensation make new sulfuric acid or its attack on iron impossible. For example, this can by maintaining a suitable temperature in the pipes or by doing so, that the lines inside with a lining made of acid-proof chamotte material provides.
