In dem Maschinengestell α ist eine durchgehende Welle b gelagert, welche in ihrem hinteren Ende bei b^l hohl ist. Der Kurbelstift der letzteren bewegt sich in dem Schlitz k eines zweiarmigen Hebels Z, welcher um den Stift I¹ drehbar ist und an seinem oberen Ende den auf dem Fufsboden in Lagern schwingend befestigten Tisch m in hin- und hergehende Bewegung setzt. Ueber diesem Tisch befindet sich an dem Maschinengestell befestigt das eigentliche Plätteisen, welches beim Plätten also feststeht, während die zu plättende Wäsche hin- und hergeht. Dieses Plätteisen besteht aus zwei gufseisernen Dampfkammern η und n¹, welche in der aus Fig 2 ersichtlichen Weise ausgehöhlt sind, und der Plättwalze o. Diese befindet sich auf der Welle b bezw. b^l und steht sammt den Heizrohren der Dampfkammer η und η¹,' sowie ihren Zuleitungsrohren ρ und p^l durch die hohle Welle b^l mit dem Dampfzuleitungsrohr d in Verbindung. Die Platt- oder Glanzwalze ο macht sammt der Welle b und der Riemscheibe e in der Minute etwas über 400 Umdrehungen.
