光泽或随角异色效应颜料用于很多领域,例如用于汽车涂料、装饰涂料、塑料着色、油漆、印刷油墨、尤其是安全印刷油墨,以及化妆品。
它们的光学作用基于光在主要为片状的,相互平行取向的金属颗粒或强折射性颜料颗粒上的定向反射。取决于颜料片状体的组成,存在形成角度依赖型颜色和亮度效果的干涉、反射和吸收现象。
角异色性光泽颜料引起特别的兴趣,其在复合强干扰色之间呈现角度依赖型颜色变化并因此呈现迷人的颜色变化。
大多数已知的角异色性光泽颜料包含片状芯,该芯是光反射性金属芯或至少对可见光部分透明的非金属芯且涂有交替的低折射和高折射或反射层。这类颜料例如在EP-A-668 329、WO-A-96/34917、EP-A-708 154、EP-A-753 545、EP-A-940 451、EP-A-959 109、DE-A-197 46 067和US-A-5135 812中描述。
此外,WO-A-93/08237公开了基于涂有高折射金属氧化物层的二氧化硅片状体的角异色性光泽颜料。
所有可市购的角异色性光泽颜料包含至少一层介电低折射的二氧化硅层或特别是引起颜料的角度依赖型颜色且其微弱干扰色通过与反射(高折射或强吸收)层结合而被增强的氟化镁层。
这些光泽颜料倾向于吸收大气或环境的湿气至饱和点,该湿气特别包括在形成涂料或光学体系的主要组分的介电低折射层中。当它们的水含量变化时,光泽颜料的颜色性能也变化。进行热处理时,例如在具有烘漆的汽车涂料的情况下,光泽颜料在烘烤后由于失水在其颜色性能上发生不需要的变化且恒定的颜色性能仅在几小时或几天后由于重新从环境中吸水而获得。这代表了在汽车的大规模制造的涂敷阶段的严重质量控制问题。

本发明的目的是提供用于烘漆中时其颜色性能变化更小且更快稳定的角异色性光泽颜料。
我们已经发现,该目的通过包含至少一层介电低折射干扰色层的角异色性光泽颜料实现,所述层包括可经由官能团与层材料相互作用的极性有机溶剂。
我们还发现优选的额外用硅烷处理过的角异色性光泽颜料。
本发明进一步提供了制备这些光泽颜料的方法,该方法包括将颜料颗粒在有机溶剂中加热至≥100℃。
本发明最后还提供了这些光泽颜料在对涂料、包括印刷油墨在内的油墨、塑料、玻璃、陶瓷产品和装饰性化妆品制剂进行着色中的用途。
本发明的角异色性光泽颜料包含至少一层介电低折射干扰色层。该层可以作为涂料已经涂敷于基质片状体或其本身形成光泽颜料的芯。
该层的折射率n通常<2,优选≤1.8且更优选≤1.6。
有用的层材料尤其包括低折射金属氧化物,金属氧化物水合物和金属氟化物,如二氧化硅、二氧化硅水合物、氧化铝、氧化铝水合物和氟化镁。
低折射层的几何层厚度通常为80-800nm且尤其为150-500nm。
关于它们结构的其它部分,本发明的角异色性光泽颜料不以任何方式受限;所有已知的颜料类型都适合。
因此,本发明的光泽颜料例如可以基于仅涂有高折射材料的低折射基质片状体,例如涂有诸如二氧化钛或氧化铁(III)的金属氧化物的二氧化硅片状体,或者可以为多层结构,该情况下该基质材料交替涂有低折射和高折射或反射层。
多层结构的光泽颜料可以通过将需要的层材料在基膜上依次物理蒸气沉积,随后从多层沉积膜上除去基膜并将多层沉积膜粉碎至颜料粒度而制备。这些光泽颜料通常由尤其是金属(例如铝)的中心反射层组成,该层前后初始涂有低折射材料,如氟化镁,并随后涂有金属,例如铬。
然而优选的是,本发明的角异色性光泽颜料基于多层涂敷、尤其是湿法化学涂敷或由化学蒸气沉积涂敷的片状基质颗粒。
对本发明的光泽颜料有用的基质材料包括所有完全或部分(通常不少于10%的程度)反射垂直入射光的片状材料。这些材料通常为高折射且通常具有通常≥2且优选≥2.4的折射率;它们可以不透明、半透明或透明且还可以在反射或透射光中显色。
一组有用的基质材料为金属片状体。可以使用任何金属化随角异色效应颜料金属和合金,如钢、铜及其合金如黄铜和青铜及尤其是铝及其合金如铝青铜。优选可通过冲压出铝箔或根据普通粉化和研磨技术简单生产的片状铝粉,并且可以使用市售产品,然而,市售产品表面应基本无油脂或类似涂料且可以被钝化,即特别是对水稳定。
金属基质颗粒如果需要的话可以已经涂有高折射金属化合物,如高折射金属氧化物、金属氮化物或金属硫化物,例如尤其是铁氧化物或二氧化钛,并因此已经具有由干涉效应和吸收效应或无吸收效应引起的(弱)内在颜色。然而该涂层不应太厚(约5-150nm)以便于基质颗粒可以保持它们的金属颜色性能。此外,还可以用诸如铁、钴、镍或γ-氧化铁(III)的磁性材料涂敷金属基质颗粒并因此使其可产生磁性。
另一组合适的基质材料是本身高折射或本身仅低折射且因此提供高折射涂层的非金属片状体。
特别合适的本身高折射材料的实例为选择性或非选择性吸收材料,例如可以掺杂硅、铝或铝和锰的片状金属氧化物、硫化物和氮化物,如特别是片状(半透明)α-氧化铁(III)(α-Fe2O3,赤铁矿),片状(不透明)氧化铁(II/III)(Fe3O4,磁铁矿),硫化钼,一氮化硼和石墨片状体。也适合的是非吸收性(无色)透明材料如片状氯氧化铋、二氧化钛和二氧化锆片状体。
特别合适的本身仅低折射的材料的实例特别是硅酸盐片状体,如尤其是浅色或白色云母,优选湿磨白云母,但也可以是其它天然云母,例如金云母和黑云母,人造云母,滑石薄片和玻璃薄片。
用于这些低折射材料的高折射涂层可以特别是高折射金属氧化物,金属氮化物和金属硫化物如二氧化钛、氧化锆、氧化锌、氧化锡、氯氧化铋、铁氧化物、氧化铬和钛铁矿以及通过氨、氢和/或烃还原涂敷二氧化钛的基质而形成的包含氧化值为<4至2的钛的还原钛化合物如Ti3O5、Ti2O3、TiO、氮氧化钛和TiN。不仅优选钛铁矿而且特别优选二氧化钛及其还原产物以及氧化铁(III)。
这些高折射涂料的常用几何层厚度为约10-300nm且尤其是20-200nm。
通常,基质片状体的平均最大直径为约1-200μm,尤其是1-100μm且厚度为约0.1-1μm,在金属基质的情况下尤其是约0.5μm,在非金属基质情况下尤其是约0.3μm。它们的自由比表面积(BET)通常为1-15m2/g,在金属基质的情况下尤其是0.1-5m2/g且在非金属基质的情况下尤其是1-12m2/g。
通常,首先用可呈无色或选择性吸收可见光的介电低折射层涂敷这些基质片状体,然后用对可见光至少部分透明的反射层涂敷。应理解的是可以涂敷很多相同或不同的这类组合层,但是优选仅涂一层组合层。
低反射层的常用材料这里也包括例如金属氧化物和金属氧化物水合物,如二氧化硅、二氧化硅水合物、氧化铝、氧化铝水合物、氢氧化铝及其混合物,优选二氧化硅(水合物)。通过将着色剂掺入这些氧化物层也可以得到选择性吸收涂料。
完善光学体系的反射层可以是很多材料中的任何一种,所述材料不仅可以是根本不吸收、选择性吸收或非选择性吸收可见光的高折射材料而且还可以是然而在可见波长区域具有高吸收常数(通常≥4)的低折射材料。
特别有用的高折射材料的具体实例是:
-非吸收性材料:
金属氧化物如二氧化钛、二氧化钛水合物、二氧化锆、二氧化锆水合物、二氧化锡、氧化锡水合物、氧化锌、氧化锌水合物及其混合物,优选二氧化钛、二氧化钛水合物及其与至多约5重量%其它金属氧化物,尤其是二氧化锡,还可以是二氧化硅的混合物,氯氧化铋,金属硫化物如硫化锌;
-选择性吸收材料:
金属氧化物和氮化物如特别优选氧化铁(III)(α-和γ-Fe2O3)、氧化铬(III)、氧化钛(III)及氮化钛(TiN和氮氧化钛TiOxNy)、通常与二氧化钛以混合物形式存在的低钛氧化物和氮化物,此外还有钒酸铋和低氧化钼(钼蓝)以及被选择性吸收着色剂“上色”的无色金属氧化物层,例如包含已掺杂选择性吸收金属阳离子或涂有含着色剂的膜的二氧化钛和二氧化锆的金属氧化物层。
-非选择性吸收材料:
可以通过挥发性金属化合物的气相分解而沉积的金属,如特别优选钼,优选铁、钨和铬,还有钴和镍及其混合物,以及可以通过还原金属盐溶液而湿法化学沉积的金属,如银、铜、金、钯、铂及合金如NiP、NiB、NiCo、NiWP、CoP和AgAu;诸如优选磁铁矿(Fe3O4)以及氧化钴(CoO、Co3O4)和氧化钒(VO2、V2O3)的金属氧化物以及这些氧化物与金属的混合物,如磁铁矿/铁;诸如特别优选硫化钼,优选硫化铁、硫化钨和硫化铬,还有硫化钴和硫化镍的金属硫化物以及诸如MoS2/WS2的这些硫化物的混合物且还尤其是这些硫化物与各金属的混合物,如MoS2/钼,及与各金属氧化物的混合物,如MoS2/氧化钼;碳。
低折射但强吸收性材料的实例是金属如铝。
该涂层的几何层厚度随选定层材料的光学性能而变化且可以为1-约500nm。在高折射非吸收性材料的情况下优选几何层厚度为5-50nm且尤其是10-40nm,在高折射选择性吸收材料的情况下为1-500nm且尤其是10-150nm。高折射非选择性吸收材料的几何层厚度优选为1-100nm,在诸如钼和铬的强吸收性金属的情况下特别优选的层厚度为1-25nm,在诸如磁铁矿的不太强吸收性材料的情况下为10-50nm且在诸如MoS2层的金属硫化物材料的情况下为5-20nm。在低折射强吸收性材料的情况下几何层厚度最终优选为1-25nm且更优选5-20nm。
角异色性光泽颜料通常可以名称Variocrom(BASF)、Colorstream(Merck)和Chromaflair(Flex Products)市购。
本发明的角异色性光泽颜料上的低折射层包括其分子足够小而能适合该层的分子晶格的极性有机溶剂且该溶剂含有可与分子晶格相互作用并因此可使该溶剂持久固定于晶格中的官能团。
该溶剂因此可以基本替代已经掺入该层的水分子且可以基本防止任何水分子重新掺入该层中。因此,该层的厚度及因此其颜色性能基本保持恒定。
该溶剂的分子体积因此通常为60-5003。
有用的官能团例如包括羟基和酰胺基团。优选羟基且其通过醚化将溶剂分子固定于SiO2晶格中。酰胺基团首先必须水解然后同样通过醚键将溶剂分子结合。
特别优选的溶剂的实例是乙二醇,甘油和甲酰胺,其中非常特别优选乙二醇。
本发明的角异色性光泽颜料可通过用极性有机溶剂热处理得到。
用极性有机溶剂热处理通常通过在溶剂中将颜料颗粒的悬浮液加热至100℃-特定回流温度而进行,优选在搅拌下进行。当乙二醇用作溶剂时,所述悬浮液优选加热至不低于150℃且更优选至不低于180℃。
该悬浮液的颜料含量通常为约1-50重量%且尤其是10-40重量%。
用溶剂热处理通常需要0.5-120小时且优选2-12小时。
特别有利的光泽颜料通过用硅烷额外处理得到。应理解的是各种硅烷的混合物可以同样用于该额外处理。
对此尤其有用的硅烷具有1-3个可水解的烷氧基且具有1-3个经由碳原子与硅原子相连且可被官能化的有机基团。
特别合适的硅烷因此具有通式I:
RaSiXb I
其中:
R代表C1-C18烷基,该烷基可以是单或多不饱和的和/或被C1-C6烷酰氧基、卤素、氨基和/或可含有环氧基的饱和或不饱和C1-C6烷氧基取代,
且对于a>1,每个R相同或不同;
X 是C1-C4烷氧基且对于b>1,每个X可以相同或不同;
a 是1、2或3;
b 是1、2或3,前提是a+b之和=4。
非常特别合适的硅烷具有通式Ia:
R′SiX′3 Ia
其中:
R′是可以在末端位置被可含有环氧基的饱和或不饱和C2-C4烷氧基取代的乙烯基或丙基;且
X′是甲氧基或乙氧基。
合适的硅烷的具体实例是:
二甲基二乙氧基硅烷、三甲基乙氧基硅烷、丙基三甲氧基硅烷、异丁基三甲氧基硅烷、辛基三乙氧基硅烷、十六烷基三乙氧基硅烷、乙烯基三甲氧基硅烷、烯丙基三甲氧基硅烷、乙烯基二甲基乙氧基硅烷、乙酸基丙基三乙氧基硅烷、三氟丙基三甲氧基硅烷、氨基丙基三乙氧基硅烷、3-甲基丙烯酰氧丙基三乙氧基硅烷、3-缩水甘油氧丙基三甲氧基硅烷、3-缩水甘油氧丙基甲基二乙氧基硅烷和3-缩水甘油氧丙基二甲基乙氧基硅烷,其中优选3-缩水甘油氧丙基三甲氧基硅烷、乙烯基三甲氧基硅烷、3-甲基丙烯酰氧丙基三甲氧基硅烷和丙基三乙氧基硅烷。
当本发明的角异色性光泽颜料用硅烷处理时,它们通常用0.1-20重量%且优选1-10重量%硅烷处理。
硅烷可以在在极性有机溶剂中加热之前、期间或之后加入。应该理解的是硅烷也可以多次加入,每次加入少量。
优选颜料颗粒最初仅用溶剂热处理,然后与硅烷混合并在50℃至回流温度且优选至不低于100℃下加热,且当使用乙二醇时,特别优选至不低于180℃下再加热0.5-12小时且尤其是1-4小时。
可以优选使用预水解的硅烷。因此,将硅烷预先与水、含水无机或有机酸(如盐酸、硝酸、磷酸、甲酸、乙酸)或含水无机碱(如氨、氢氧化钠、氢氧化钾、碳酸钠)混合。
然而,还可以将硅烷和含水酸或碱依次加入颜料悬浮液中。
将仅用极性有机溶剂或还用硅烷处理过的光泽颜料在冷至室温之后或趁热,优选在60-130℃下通过过滤方便地分离。该颜料通常再用该溶剂(如乙二醇)或用可与第一溶剂混溶的溶剂洗涤,第二溶剂的实例是乙酸丁酯、丙氧基丙醇、甲基·乙基酮、乙二醇一丁醚、二甘醇一丁醚。当选定的溶剂是光泽颜料较晚用于其中的溶剂时,得到的颜料膏可以直接使用或在约60-150℃下干燥后使用。
本发明的角异色性光泽颜料对很宽范围的应用介质的着色都非常有用,尤其是涂料、包括印刷油墨在内的油墨、塑料、玻璃、陶瓷产品和装饰性化妆品制剂。
它们对粉末涂料且尤其是通常在100-200℃下烘烤的烘漆的着色特别重要,如含溶剂的低固体分、中固体分和高固体分体系及相当的水性体系。
当用于此目的时,它们与未处理的颜料相比显然具有更恒定的颜色性能,颜色性能的改变明显降低且显著更快地达到稳定的目标阶段。
如果需要的话,本发明的角异色性光泽颜料可以额外涂上常用颜料添加剂例如以便于可以改进在应用介质中的分散或取向。
实施例
A)本发明光泽颜料的制备
实施例1
将300g以与EP-A-708 154的实施例1相似的方式得到的铝颜料、二氧化硅和氧化铁(III)涂料(铝片状体的平均粒径:17μm,SiO2含量:63重量%,Fe2O3含量:10重量%)在1.5L乙二醇中的悬浮液在回流(191℃)下加热4小时。冷至110℃后,将颜料滤出并再用乙二醇洗涤得到72重量%颜料膏。
实施例2
将300g实施例1的光泽颜料在1.5L乙二醇中的悬浮液回流4小时。在10分钟内加入16.5g 3-缩水甘油氧丙基三甲氧基硅烷后,在191℃下继续再回流2小时。如实施例1那样进行处理得到74重量%颜料膏。
实施例3
重复实施例2,使用8.3g 3-缩水甘油氧丙基三甲氧基硅烷。
实施例4
重复实施例2,使用4.1g 3-缩水甘油氧丙基三甲氧基硅烷。
实施例5
重复实施例2,使用17.4g 3-甲基丙烯酰氧基丙基三乙氧基硅烷。
实施例6
重复实施例2,使用10.4g乙烯基三甲氧基硅烷。
实施例7
重复实施例2,使用7.5g丙基三乙氧基硅烷。
实施例8
重复实施例2,不同的是每次仅将混合物加热至170℃。得到72重量%颜料膏。
实施例9
重复实施例2,不同的是将颜料膏在100℃下干燥。
实施例10
重复实施例2,不同的是将颜料膏在130℃下干燥。
实施例11
将300g实施例1的光泽颜料在1.5L乙二醇中的悬浮液回流4小时。将悬浮液冷至120℃并在10分钟内加入16.5g 3-缩水甘油氧丙基三甲氧基硅烷后,在此温度下继续再搅拌2小时。如实施例1那样进行处理得到72重量%颜料膏。
实施例12
重复实施例2,使用150g光泽颜料和通过在使用前1小时加入1ml水和1ml浓乙酸而预水解的8.3g 3-缩水甘油氧丙基三甲氧基硅烷。得到72重量%颜料膏。
实施例13
重复实施例2,使用300g以与EP-A-708 154的实施例1相似的方式得到的铝颜料、二氧化硅和氧化铁(III)涂料(铝片状体的平均粒径:16μm,SiO2含量:62重量%,Fe2O3含量:14重量%)。得到70重量%颜料膏。
实施例14
重复实施例13,不同的是初始回流8小时,然后在加入硅烷后再回流6小时。得到74重量%颜料膏。
B)本发明光泽颜料的用途
为了评价所得颜料的颜色性能,将32g每种颜料调入768g基于丙烯酸酯的水性烘漆中(固体含量为20重量%)并使用螺旋桨搅拌机以1700rmp将颜料分散于其中。然后将得到的涂料喷在黑色和白色涂敷过的铝板上,重复六次至不透明,闪蒸15分钟,用水性烘烤透明涂层罩面涂敷并在130℃下烘烤30分钟。
使用Optronik的Multiflash变角分光光度计在25℃下在烘烤步骤后的0.5小时、1小时和24小时由反射角测定CIELAB坐标。然后使用下式确定1小时和24小时后的测量值(样品)与0.5小时后的测量值(标准)的色差dE*:
dE*=[(dL*)2+(da*)2+(db*)2]1/2
其中,
dL*=L* p-L* b :样品与标准的亮度之差;
da*=a* p-a* b :样品与标准的红-绿色差;
db*=b* p-b* b :样品与标准的黄-蓝色差。
色差dE*是样品与标准之间关于色度、色调和亮度的差别大小的量度。dE*值越小,样品与标准在颜色性能上的一致性越好。
得到的结果列于下表中,为了比较,下表还列出了各未处理的颜料(对比1和对比13)。

Claims (10)
1.角异色性光泽颜料,其包含至少一层介电低折射干扰色层,所述层包括可经由官能团与层材料相互作用的极性有机溶剂。
2.角异色性光泽颜料,其包含至少一层介电低折射干扰色层,所述层已在可经由官能团与层材料相互作用的极性有机溶剂中进行过热处理。
3.如权利要求1或2所要求的光泽颜料,其中所述有机溶剂是乙二醇。
4.如权利要求1-3中任一项所要求的光泽颜料,其已经用硅烷额外处理。
5.如权利要求4所要求的光泽颜料,其已经用通式I的硅烷进行处理:
RaSiXb I
其中,
R代表C1-C18烷基,该烷基可以是单或多不饱和的和/或被C1-C6烷酰氧基、卤素、氨基和/或可含有环氧基的饱和或不饱和C1-C6烷氧基取代,
且对于a>1,每个R相同或不同;
X是C1-C4烷氧基且对于b>1,每个X可以相同或不同;
a 是1、2或3;
b 是1、2或3,前提是a+b之和=4。
6.如权利要求4或5所要求的光泽颜料,其已经用通式Ia的硅烷额外处理:
R′SiX′3 Ia
其中:
R′是可以在末端位置被可含有环氧基的饱和或不饱和C2-C4烷氧基取代的乙烯基或丙基;且
X′是甲氧基或乙氧基。
7.一种制备如权利要求1-3中任一项所要求的光泽颜料的方法,该方法包括将颜料颗粒在有机溶剂中加热至≥100℃的温度。
8.一种制备如权利要求4-6中任一项所要求的光泽颜料的方法,该方法包括在加热之前、期间和/或之后加入硅烷。
9.如权利要求1-6中任一项所要求的光泽颜料在对涂料、包括印刷油墨在内的油墨、塑料、玻璃、陶瓷产品和装饰性化妆品制剂进行着色中的用途。
10.如权利要求1-6中任一项所要求的光泽颜料在对烘漆及粉末涂料进行着色中的用途。
