Abstract
本发明涉及一种可以通过自由基聚合得到的缔合性增稠剂、其生产及其在纸张涂布滑爽剂中的用途。该缔合性增稠剂由如下单体形成:(a)选自烯属不饱和C3-C8羧酸的酸单体,(b)通式H2C=CR1-COO-(EO)n-(PO)m-R2的缔合性单体,其中R1为氢或甲基,n为至少2的数,m为0-50的数,EO为氧化乙烯基团,PO为氧化丙烯基团且R2为C8-C30烷基或C8-C30烷芳基,以及(c)不同于a)和b)的非离子性可共聚单体,其中反应产物在聚合之后已经与形成非离子性基团的引发剂反应。
Description
本发明涉及一种可以通过自由基聚合得到的缔合性增稠剂、其制备及其在纸张涂布滑爽剂中的用途。该缔合性增稠剂由如下单体形成:(a)选自烯属不饱和C3-C8羧酸的酸单体,(b)通式H2C=CR1-COO-(EO)n-R2的缔合性单体,其中R1为氢或甲基,n为至少2的数且R2为C8-C30烷基或C8-C30烷芳基,以及(c)不同于a)和b)的非离子性可共聚单体,其中反应产物在聚合之后已经与形成非离子性基团的引发剂反应。
当改善纸张和卡纸板的可印性和光学外观时,纸张和卡纸板表面通常涂敷所谓的纸张涂布滑爽剂。除水以外,纸张涂布滑爽剂通常包含颜料、粘合剂和产生所要求的流变学性能的助剂,例如增稠剂。借助纸张涂布滑爽剂,原纸获得所需机械和光学性能。粘合剂应将颜料固定在纸张上并确保在所得涂层中的粘结力。涂敷有纸张涂布滑爽剂的纸张尤其应易于印刷。该纸张涂布滑爽剂可以借助合适的辊施用于前进中的纸幅上,过量的涂布滑爽剂用刀片刮除并再循环到涂布滑爽剂的储存容器中。为了简单和无问题地加工该含水纸张涂布滑爽剂,希望适合加工方法的流变学性能。当以低剪切施用时,粘度应尽可能高;当以高剪切刮除时,粘度应尽可能低。此外,在再循环刮除材料下连续施用过程中的流变学性能应尽可能长时间保持恒定。由于纸张的吸收效果,水恒定地从该涂布滑爽剂抽出并且因此出现不希望的粘度上升。因此需要具有尽可能好的保水性的涂布滑爽剂。还需要具有尽可能高固体含量的涂布滑爽剂,因为在干燥时需要除去的水更少且可以节省能量成本。
因此,用于制备涂布滑爽剂的增稠剂组合物应具有尽可能高的浓度,但最初应具有低粘度且仅在使用时显示出其增稠效果(例如通过pH调节)。高度浓缩但具有低粘度的聚合物浓缩物例如可以通过乳液聚合作为聚合物分散体制备,但聚合物的可及链长通常受限制(特别是在丙烯酸聚合物的情况下)并其用其制备的纸张涂布滑爽剂的保水性仍不完全令人满意。保水性可能因与纸张涂布滑爽剂的其他成分相互作用而受不利影响。这些为效果难以预见的复杂影响因素。缔合性增稠剂在调节纸张涂布滑爽剂流变性能中的用途公开于WO 2004/076743中。缔合性增稠剂及其应用,尤其是在纸张涂布滑爽剂中的应用也公开于EP 0011806中。用于其他意欲用途的缔合性增稠剂公开于EP 0013836、EP 0216479和US 2007/0155880中。已知增稠剂体系在低剪切粘度、高剪切粘度和保水性优化方面的性能在纸张涂布应用的情况下仍不完全令人满意。
本发明的目的是提供具有良好的流变学应用性能和良好的保水性的增稠剂,尤其是用于纸张涂布滑爽剂的增稠剂。
本发明涉及一种通过如下单体自由基聚合形成的缔合性增稠剂:
a)至少一种选自烯属不饱和C3-C8羧酸的酸单体;
b)至少一种如下通式的缔合性单体:
H2C=CR1-COO-(EO)n-(PO)m-R2
其中R1为氢或甲基,n为至少2的数,m为0-50的数,EO为氧化乙烯基团,PO为氧化丙烯基团且R2为C8-C30烷基或C8-C30烷芳基,c)不同于a)和b)的非离子性可共聚单体;其中反应产物在聚合之后已经与
形成非离子性基团的引发剂反应。
缔合性增稠剂是具有疏水性端基或侧基的亲水性、水溶性或水溶胀性聚合物。疏水性端基或侧基是水不溶性的。缔合性增稠剂的结构类似于表面活性物质的结构。亲水性端基或侧基相互之间的相互作用导致在低剪切负荷下的高粘度。
酸单体a)的量基于所有单体的总和优选为至少25重量%,例如25-55重量%或30-55重量%或35-50重量%,特别优选在甲基丙烯酸情况下为至少40重量%,例如40-55重量%。酸单体为能够自由基聚合的烯属不饱和C3-C8羧酸,尤其是α,β-烯属不饱和C3-C8羧酸。优选的酸单体具有如下通式:
RCH=CR’COOH
其中R为H、CH3或COOX,若R为H,则R’为H、C1-C4烷基或CH2COOX,若R为CH3,则R’为H,并且若R为COOX,则R’为H或CH2COOX,X为H或C1-C4烷基。
酸单体例如为丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸、衣康酸、富马酸、巴豆酸、乌头酸和马来酸,以及在多羧酸的情况下其对应的单酯或部分酯。酸单体可以单独使用或者作为混合物使用。特别优选丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸及其混合物。
缔合性单体b)的量基于所有单体的总和优选为0.1-10重量%,特别优选不超过5重量%或不超过2重量%,例如0.1-5重量%或0.2-2重量%。缔合性单体是能够自由基聚合且同时具有亲水性和疏水性基团的表面活性物质。疏水性基团例如为C8-C30烷基或C8-C30烷芳基。亲水性基团例如为具有至少两个氧化乙烯单元的聚氧乙烯基团。缔合性单体具有如下通式:
H2C=CR1-COO-(EO)n-(PO)m-R2
其中R1为氢或甲基,n为至少2,优选6-100或10-40的数,m为0-50,优选0-20的数,EO为氧化乙烯基团(-CH2-CH2-O-),PO为氧化丙烯基团(-CH2-CH(CH3)-O-)且R2为C8-C30烷基或C8-C30烷芳基,n优选大于或等于m且n+m优选为6-100或10-40。
缔合性单体b)例如为EP 0011806的式(III)-(VI)的那些。例如合适的是下式的表面活性(甲基)丙烯酸烷基苯氧基聚(亚乙氧基)乙基酯:

其中Ar为被C8-C16烷基取代的苯基,R为H或CH3,EO为氧化乙烯基团-C2H4O-且n为6-100,优选10-40的数。
例如,下式的表面活性(甲基)丙烯酸烷氧基聚(亚乙氧基)乙基酯也是合适的:

其中R”为C8-C20烷基,R为H或CH3,EO为氧化乙烯基团-C2H4O-以及n为6-50,优选10-40的数。
下式的表面活性(甲基)丙烯酸烷氧基聚(亚烷氧基)乙基酯也是合适的:

其中R”为C8-C20烷基,R为H或CH3,EO为氧化乙烯基团-C2H4O-,PO为氧化丙烯基团-CH2-CH(CH3)-O-,n为6-50,优选10-40的数,以及m为1-40的数。
特别优选的单体b)具有如下通式:
H2C=CR1-COO-(EO)n-R2
其中R1为氢或甲基,n为10-40的数且R2为C10-C30烷基。例如,被约25mol氧化乙烯乙氧基化且可以以名称6954-O得到的C16-C18脂肪醇混合物的甲基丙烯酸酯也是合适的。
可共聚非离子性单体c)的量基于所有单体的总和优选为20-70重量%或25-60重量%或30-58重量%。非离子性单体c)可以是如下通式的那些:

其中Y为H、CH3或氯;Z为COOR、CONH2、CONHR、CONR2、C6H4R’、CN、Cl、-OCOR”或CH=CH2;R为C1-C8烷基或C2-C8羟基烷基;R’为H、Cl、Br或C1-C4烷基且R”为C1-C8烷基。优选的非离子性单体是如下那些,其中若Y为H,则Z为COOR、CONH2、CONHR、CONR2、C6H4R’、CN、Cl、-OCOR”或CH=CH2;或者若Y为CH3,则Z为COOR、CONH2、CONHR、CONR2、C6H4R’、CN或CH=CH2;或者若Y为Cl,则Z为Cl。
非离子性单体c)尤其可以选自(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C20烷基酯,包含至多20个碳原子的羧酸的乙烯基酯,具有至多20个碳原子的乙烯基芳族化合物,乙烯基卤,具有2-8个碳原子和一个或两个双键的脂族烃,包含醚基的单体,尤其是包含1-10个碳原子的醇的乙烯基醚,以及在分子中具有至少一个氮原子的单体或这些单体的混合物。含氮单体例如为乙烯基羧酰胺、(甲基)丙烯酰胺,N-乙烯基甲酰胺、N-乙烯基乙酰胺、N-甲基-N-乙烯基甲酰胺、N-甲基-N-乙烯基乙酰胺、N-乙烯基吡咯烷酮、N-乙烯基己内酰胺、乙烯基咪唑。典型的非离子性单体c)例如为丙烯酸或甲基丙烯酸的C1-C8烷基酯和C2-C8羟基烷基酯,例如丙烯酸乙酯、甲基丙烯酸乙酯、甲基丙烯酸甲酯、丙烯酸2-乙基己基酯、丙烯酸丁酯、甲基丙烯酸丁酯、丙烯酸2-羟基乙基酯、甲基丙烯酸2-羟基丁基酯;苯乙烯、乙烯基甲苯、叔丁基苯乙烯、异丙基苯乙烯、对氯苯乙烯;乙酸乙烯酯、丁酸乙烯酯、己酸乙烯酯;丙烯腈、甲基丙烯腈、丁二烯、异戊二烯、氯乙烯、偏二氯乙烯等。优选的非离子性单体c)选自具有1-20个碳原子的一元醇的丙烯酸酯和具有1-20个碳原子的一元醇的甲基丙烯酸酯。
本发明缔合性增稠剂可以通过自由基聚合,尤其是乳液聚合制备。在乳液聚合中,通常将离子性和/或非离子性乳化剂和/或保护性胶体或稳定剂用作表面活性化合物以促进单体在含水介质中的分散。乳化剂优选为阴离子性或非离子性乳化剂。合适的乳化剂例如为乙氧基化程度为3-50或4-30的乙氧基化C8-C36或C12-C18脂肪醇,乙氧基化程度为3-50的乙氧基化单-、二-和三-C4-C12或C4-C9烷基酚,磺基琥珀酸二烷基酯的碱金属盐,C8-C12烷基硫酸的碱金属和铵盐,C12-C18链烷磺酸的碱金属和铵盐以及C9-C18烷基芳基磺酸的碱金属和铵盐。阳离子性乳化剂例如为具有至少一个氨基或铵基和至少一个C8-C22烷基的化合物。其他合适的乳化剂是如下通式的化合物:
其中R5和R6为氢或C4-C14烷基且不同时为氢,以及X和Y可以为碱金属离子和/或铵离子。优选R5、R6为具有6-18个碳原子,尤其是具有6、12和16个碳原子的线性或支化烷基,或氢,R5和R6二者不同时为氢。X和Y优选为钠、钾或铵离子,特别优选钠。特别有利的是其中X和Y为钠,R5为具有12个碳原子的支化烷基且R6为氢或R5的化合物II。通常使用单烷基化产物比例为50-90重量%的工业混合物,例如2A1(DowChemical Company的商标)。合适的乳化剂也描述于Houben-Weyl,Methoden der organischen Chemie,第14/1卷,Makromolekulare Stoffe,Georg Thieme Verlag,Stuttgart,1961,第192-208页中。乳化剂的商标名例如为2A1,NP 50,OC 50,乳化剂825,乳化剂825S,OG,NSO,904S,I-RA,E 3065,FES 77,AT 18,VSL,NPS 25。包含能够自由基聚合的烯属不饱和双键的共聚乳化剂,例如反应性阴离子性乳化剂,如Resoap SR-10也合适。
乳液聚合通常在30-130°C,优选50-90°C下进行。聚合介质可以仅由水构成以及由水和与其溶混的液体如甲醇的混合物构成。优选仅使用水。乳液聚合可以作为分批方法以及以进料方法的形式进行,后者包括逐步或梯度程序。优选该进料方法,其中首先加入部分聚合批料、加热至聚合温度并预聚,然后连续或逐步供入剩余部分的聚合批料,通常以多个空间上分开的进料,其中一个或多个进料以纯净或乳化形式包含单体。
在乳液聚合中,可以使用常规和已知的助剂,例如水溶性引发剂和链转移剂。在反应条件下形成自由基的引发剂通常用于乳液聚合中。引发剂的量基于待聚合单体通常为0.1-10重量%或0.5-5重量%。引发剂优选基于待聚合单体以至多2重量%且优选至少0.9重量%,例如1.0-1.5重量%的量使用。合适的聚合引发剂例如为过氧化物,氢过氧化物,过氧化氢,过硫酸钠或钾,氧化还原催化剂和偶氮化合物,如2,2-偶氮二(4-甲氧基-2,4-二甲基戊腈),2,2-偶氮二(2,4-二甲基戊腈)和2,2-偶氮二(2-脒基丙烷)二盐酸盐。其他合适引发剂的实例是过氧化二苯甲酰、过新戊酸叔丁酯、过-2-乙基己酸叔丁酯、过氧化二叔丁基、过氧化二戊基、过氧化二辛酰、过氧化二癸酰、过氧化二月桂酰、过氧化二(邻甲苯甲酰基)、过氧化琥珀酰、过乙酸叔丁酯、过马来酸叔丁酯、过异丁酸叔丁酯、过新戊酸叔丁酯、过辛酸叔丁酯、过苯甲酸叔丁酯、氢过氧化叔丁基、偶氮二异丁腈、2,2′-偶氮(2-甲基丁腈),2,2′-偶氮二(2,4-二甲基戊腈)和2,2′-偶氮二(N,N′-二亚甲基异丁脒)二盐酸盐。引发剂优选选自过氧化二硫酸盐,过氧化硫酸盐,偶氮引发剂,有机过氧化物,有机氢过氧化物和过氧化氢。所谓的还原-氧化(氧化还原)引发剂体系也合适。氧化还原引发剂体系由至少一种通常为无机的还原剂和无机或有机氧化剂构成。氧化性组分例如为上面已经对乳液聚合所提到的引发剂。还原性组分例如为亚硫酸的碱金属盐,如亚硫酸钠,亚硫酸氢钠,焦亚硫酸的碱金属盐,如焦亚硫酸钠,脂族醛和酮的亚硫酸氢盐加合物,如丙酮合亚硫酸氢盐,或还原剂如羟基甲烷亚磺酸及其盐,或抗坏血酸。氧化还原引发剂体系可以与其中金属组分可以以多种价态存在的可溶性金属化合物同时使用。常规氧化还原引发剂体系例如为抗坏血酸/硫酸铁(II)/过氧化二硫酸钠,氢过氧化叔丁基/焦亚硫酸钠,氢过氧化叔丁基/羟基甲烷亚磺酸钠或氢过氧化叔丁基/抗坏血酸。各组分,例如还原性组分也可以为混合物,例如羟基甲烷亚磺酸的钠盐和焦亚硫酸钠的混合物。所述化合物通常以水溶液形式使用,浓度下限由该分散体中可接受的水量确定且浓度上限由相关化合物在水中的溶解度确定。特别优选使用水溶性引发剂,例如过硫酸钠、过硫酸钾、过硫酸铵、过氧化二硫酸钠,过氧化二硫酸钾和/或过氧化二硫酸铵。该聚合还可以借助高能束,如电子束或者通过用UV光辐照而引发。多种不同的引发剂也可以用于乳液聚合中。
链转移剂可以用于聚合中,例如基于100重量份待聚合单体以0-0.8重量份或0.05-0.5重量份的量使用,结果使得摩尔质量降低。例如,合适的是具有硫醇基团的化合物,如叔丁基硫醇、巯基乙酸乙基丙烯酸酯、巯基乙醇、巯基丙基三甲氧基硅烷或叔十二烷基硫醇。此外还可以使用没有硫醇基团的链转移剂,如萜品油烯。在优选实施方案中,乳液聚合物在不使用链转移剂下制备。
本发明缔合性增稠剂的特征是在实际聚合之后使最初形成的反应产物进行后处理并与形成非离子性基团的引发剂反应。非离子性基团优选为例如由过氧化氢或有机氢过氧化物形成的羟基自由基,或者为例如由有机烷基过氧化物形成的烷氧基自由基。用于后处理的引发剂实例是过氧化氢、过氧化二苯甲酰、过新戊酸叔丁酯、过-2-乙基己酸叔丁酯、过氧化二叔丁基、过氧化二戊基、过氧化二辛酰、过氧化二癸酰、过氧化二月桂酰、过氧化二(邻甲苯甲酰基)、过氧化琥珀酰、过乙酸叔丁酯、过马来酸叔丁酯、过异丁酸叔丁酯、过新戊酸叔丁酯、过辛酸叔丁酯、过苯甲酸叔丁酯、氢过氧化叔丁基。优选使用选自过氧化氢、有机过氧化物和有机氢过氧化物的过氧化物。
特别优选将氧化还原引发剂体系用于后处理,其中所用氧化性组分是至少一种选自过氧化氢、有机过氧化物和有机氢过氧化物的过氧化物并且所用还原性组分是无机或有机还原剂。还原性组分例如为亚硫酸的碱金属盐,如亚硫酸钠、亚硫酸氢钠,焦亚硫酸的碱金属盐,如焦亚硫酸钠,脂族醛和酮的亚硫酸氢盐加合物,如丙酮合亚硫酸氢盐,或还原剂如羟基甲烷亚磺酸及其盐,或抗坏血酸。用于后处理的氧化还原引发剂体系可以与其中金属组分可以以多种价态存在的可溶性金属化合物同时使用。氧化还原引发剂体系例如为抗坏血酸/硫酸铁(II)/过氧化二硫酸钠,氢过氧化叔丁基/焦亚硫酸钠,氢过氧化叔丁基/羟基甲烷亚磺酸钠或氢过氧化叔丁基/抗坏血酸。单个组分,例如还原性组分,也可以是混合物,例如羟基甲烷亚磺酸的钠盐和焦亚硫酸钠的混合物。过氧化氢/抗坏血酸和氢过氧化叔丁基/抗坏血酸特别适合后处理。
用于后处理的引发剂量基于100重量份单体优选为0.001-0.1重量份,特别优选0.002-0.5重量份。
后处理用引发剂的加入在单体的主聚合发生之后,即在优选所有单体中超过50重量%,尤其是至少70重量%或至少90重量%或特别优选100重量%已经加入且优选所有单体中超过50重量%,尤其是至少70重量%或至少90重量%已经聚合之后进行。
使用形成非离子性基团的引发剂的后处理优选至少60°C,特别优选至少70°C的温度下,例如在60-130°C或70-90°C下进行。
在优选实施方案中,本发明的缔合性增稠剂通过如下单体的自由基聚合形成:
a)25-55重量%至少一种选自丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸及其混合物的酸单体;
b)0.1-5重量%至少一种如下通式的缔合性单体:
H2C=CR1-COO-(EO)n-R2
其中R1为氢或甲基,n为10-40的数且R2为C10-C30烷基,
c)20-70重量%不同于a)和b)且选自如下通式的那些的非离子性可共聚单体:
CH2=CYZ
其中Y为H、CH3或氯;Z为COOR、CONH2、CONHR、CONR2、C6H4R’、CN、Cl、-OCOR”或CH=CH2;R为C1-C8烷基或C2-C8羟基烷基;R’为H、Cl、Br或C1-C4烷基且R”为C1-C8烷基,
其中用于反应产物在聚合之后的反应的引发剂为氧化还原引发剂体系,其中所用氧化性组分为至少一种选自过氧化氢、有机过氧化物和有机氢过氧化物的过氧化物,并且所用还原性组分为无机或有机还原剂。
本发明还涉及一种制备上述缔合性增稠剂的方法,其中使包含如下单体的单体混合物进行自由基聚合:
a)至少一种选自烯属不饱和C3-C8羧酸的酸单体;
b)至少一种如下通式的缔合性单体:
H2C=CR1-COO-(EO)n-(PO)m-R2
其中R1为氢或甲基,n为至少2的数,m为0-50的数,EO为氧化乙烯基团,PO为氧化丙烯基团且R2为C8-C30烷基或C8-C30烷芳基,以及
c)不同于a)和b)的非离子性可共聚单体,
并且使反应产物在如上所述的聚合之后与形成非离子性基团的引发剂反应。
本发明缔合性增稠剂优选以含水增稠剂组合物形式使用。因此,本发明还涉及以优选20-40重量%或25-30重量%的量包含分散于水中的至少一种本发明缔合性增稠剂的含水增稠剂组合物。该分散体优选用表面活性剂稳定。pH优选为2.0-3.5。
本发明缔合性增稠剂优选用作纸张涂布滑爽剂的增稠剂。因此,本发明还涉及一种包含至少一种本发明缔合性增稠剂、无机颜料、至少一种粘合剂和水以及任选还有其他添加剂的纸张涂布滑爽剂。
除了水以外,纸张涂布滑爽剂通常包含颜料、粘合剂和产生所需流变学性能的助剂,例如增稠剂。颜料通常分散于水中。该纸张涂布滑爽剂基于总固体含量包含优选至少80重量%,例如80-95重量%或80-90重量%的颜料。白色颜料特别合适。合适的颜料例如为金属盐颜料,如硫酸钙、硫铝酸钙、硫酸钡、碳酸镁和碳酸钙,其中优选碳酸盐颜料,尤其是碳酸钙。碳酸钙可以是天然磨碎碳酸钙(GCC)、沉淀碳酸钙(PCC)、石灰或白垩。合适的碳酸钙颜料例如以60、60或90ME得到。其他合适的颜料例如为硅酸、铝氧化物、氢氧化铝、硅酸盐、二氧化钛、氧化锌、高岭土、矾土、滑石或二氧化硅。合适的其他颜料例如以MP 50(粘土)、90(粘土)或TalcumC10得到。
本发明缔合性增稠剂用于本发明纸张涂布滑爽剂中以产生所需流变性。所用量优选基于100重量份颜料为0.05-5重量份或0.1-2重量份。
纸张涂布滑爽剂包含至少一种粘合剂。粘合剂在纸张涂布滑爽剂中的最重要作用是使颜料与纸张粘合并使颜料相互粘合以及部分填充颜料颗粒间的空腔。例如,每100重量份颜料使用1-50重量份,优选1-25重量份或5-20重量份有机粘合剂(固体,即没有水或在21°C,1巴下为液体的其他溶剂)。
合适的粘合剂是天然粘合剂,尤其是基于淀粉的粘合剂,以及合成粘合剂,尤其是可以通过乳液聚合制备的乳液聚合物。就此而言,基于淀粉的粘合剂应理解为指任何天然、改性或降解淀粉。天然淀粉可以由直链淀粉、支链淀粉或其混合物构成。改性淀粉可以是氧化淀粉、淀粉酯或淀粉醚。淀粉的分子量可以通过水解降低(降解淀粉)。合适的降解产物是寡糖或糊精。优选的淀粉是谷物、玉米和土豆淀粉。特别优选谷物和玉米淀粉,非常特别优选谷物淀粉。在使用合成粘合剂的情况下,也可以同时使用天然粘合剂如淀粉,但并不绝对必要。
合成粘合剂优选包含至少40重量%,优选至少60重量%,特别优选至少80重量%所谓的主单体。主单体选自(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C20烷基酯,包含至多20个碳原子的羧酸的乙烯基酯,具有至多20个碳原子的乙烯基芳族化合物,烯属不饱和腈,乙烯基卤,包含1-10个碳原子的醇的乙烯基醚,具有2-8个碳原子和一个或两个双键的脂族烃或这些单体的混合物。例如可以提到具有C1-C10烷基的(甲基)丙烯酸烷基酯,如甲基丙烯酸甲酯、丙烯酸甲酯、丙烯酸正丁酯、丙烯酸乙酯和丙烯酸2-乙基己基酯。(甲基)丙烯酸烷基酯的混合物尤其也合适。具有1-20个碳原子的羧酸的乙烯基酯例如为月桂酸乙烯酯、硬脂酸乙烯酯、丙酸乙烯酯、支链烷烃羧酸乙烯酯和乙酸乙烯酯。
合适的乙烯基芳族化合物是乙烯基甲苯、α-和对-甲基苯乙烯、α-丁基苯乙烯、4-正丁基苯乙烯、4-正癸基苯乙烯以及优选苯乙烯。腈类的实例是丙烯腈和甲基丙烯腈。乙烯基卤是被氯、氟或溴取代的烯属不饱和化合物,优选氯乙烯和偏二氯乙烯。例如,乙烯基甲基醚或乙烯基异丁基醚可以作为乙烯基醚提到。优选包含1-4个碳原子的醇的乙烯基醚。乙烯、丙烯、丁二烯、异戊二烯和氯丁二烯可以作为具有2-8个碳原子和一个或两个烯属双键的烃提到。
优选的主单体是(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C10烷基酯以及(甲基)丙烯酸烷基酯与乙烯基芳族化合物,尤其是苯乙烯,或具有至少两个双键的烃,尤其是丁二烯的混合物,或该类烃与乙烯基芳族化合物,尤其是苯乙烯的混合物。在脂族烃(尤其是丁二烯)与乙烯基芳族化合物(尤其是苯乙烯)的混合物情况下,比例例如可以为10:90-90:10,尤其是20:80-80:20。特别优选的主单体是丁二烯以及丁二烯和苯乙烯的上述混合物。
除了主单体外,适合作为粘合剂的乳液聚合物可以包含其他单体,例如具有羧基、磺基或膦酸基团的单体。优选羧基。例如可以提到丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸、衣康酸、马来酸或富马酸。烯属不饱和酸在该乳液聚合物中的含量通常小于10重量%,优选小于8重量%并且至少0.1重量%或至少1重量%。其他单体例如还有包含羟基的单体,尤其是(甲基)丙烯酸C1-C10羟基烷基酯,或酰胺,如(甲基)丙烯酰胺。
本发明的纸张涂布滑爽剂可以额外包含其他添加剂和助剂,例如填料、用于进一步优化粘度和保水性的助粘合剂和其他增稠剂、荧光增白剂、分散剂、表面活性剂、润滑剂(例如硬脂酸钙和蜡类),用于pH调节的中和剂(例如NaOH或氢氧化铵)、消泡剂、脱气剂、防腐剂(例如生物杀伤剂)、流平剂、染料(尤其是可溶性染料)等。除了合成聚合物(例如交联的聚丙烯酸酯)外合适的其他增稠剂尤其是纤维素,优选羧甲基纤维素。荧光增白剂例如为荧光或磷光染料,尤其是茋。
优选为含水纸张涂布滑爽剂;它包含水,尤其是来自各成分本身的制备形式(聚合物水分散体、含水颜料浆);所需粘度可以通过加入进一步的水产生。该纸张涂布滑爽剂的常规固体含量为30-70重量%。该纸张涂布滑爽剂的pH优选调节为6-10,尤其是7-9.5的值。
本发明的优选实施方案涉及一种纸张涂布滑爽剂,其包含
(i)基于100重量份颜料为0.05-2重量份的至少一种上述本发明缔合性增稠剂,
(ii)基于总固体含量为80-95重量%的选自硫酸钙、硫铝酸钙、硫酸钡、碳酸镁、碳酸钙、硅酸、铝氧化物、氢氧化铝、硅酸盐、二氧化钛、氧化锌、高岭土、矾土、滑石和二氧化硅的颜料,
(iii)1-25重量份,优选5-15重量份或8-10重量份至少一种粘合剂。
本发明还涉及用本发明纸张涂布滑爽剂涂敷的纸张或卡纸板以及一种涂敷纸张或卡纸板的方法,其中
-制备本发明缔合性增稠剂或使其可用;以及
-用该缔合性增稠剂、至少一种颜料、至少一种粘合剂和任选其他助剂制备纸张涂布滑爽剂;并将该纸张涂布滑爽剂施用于纸张或卡纸板的至少一个表面。
纸张涂布滑爽剂优选施用于未涂布原纸或未涂布卡纸板上。该量通常为每平方米1-50g,优选5-30g(固体,即没有水或其他在21°C,1巴下为液体的溶剂)。涂敷可以通过常规施用方法进行,例如借助施胶压机、膜压机、刮板式涂布机、气刷涂布机、刮刀涂布机、幕式淋涂法或喷雾涂布机。取决于颜料体系,本发明缔合性增稠剂可以用于底涂层和/或面漆用纸张涂布滑爽剂中。
本发明的纸张涂布滑爽剂具有良好的性能特征,尤其是良好的流变学性能和良好的保水性性能。涂敷的纸张和卡纸板可以以常规印刷方法,如凸版印刷、照相凹板印刷、平版印刷、数字印刷、喷墨印刷、胶版印刷、报纸印刷、活版印刷、升华印刷、激光印刷、电子照相印刷或这些印刷方法的组合容易地印刷。
实施例
除非由上下文明确得知,否则以百分数表示的数据总是为重量百分数。含量数据涉及在水溶液或含水分散体中的含量。
实施例1:制备缔合性增稠剂
首先将去离子水(772g)和乳化剂(SDS,8g,15%水溶液)置于具有搅拌器装置、温度计、氮气连接管、回流冷凝器和进料装置的反应器中。将该反应器用氮气冲洗并加热至80°C。由去离子水(186g)、乳化剂(SDS,29.3g,15%水溶液)、甲基丙烯酸(162g)、被25mol氧化乙烯乙氧基化的C16-C18脂肪醇混合物的甲基丙烯酸酯(6954-O,3.5g,60%浓度)和丙烯酸乙酯(194.8g)制备水乳液。将过硫酸钠(11.4g,浓度为7%的水溶液)供入反应器中,然后开始单体乳液进料。在2小时内连续供入该单体乳液。单体加料之后20分钟将过氧化氢(0.13g,30%水溶液)和抗坏血酸(32g,2%水溶液)在40分钟内加入反应器中。进行冷却并加入60g水。得到固体含量为27.2%的聚合物水乳液。
实施例2:对比,不使用氧化还原引发剂体系
如同实施例1,在单体加料结束后不加入过氧化氢且不加入抗坏血酸。实施例3:对比,使用过硫酸钠后处理
如同实施例1,在单体加料结束后的后处理中使用过硫酸钠而不是过氧化氢作为氧化剂。
实施例4:对比,无引发剂加料
如同实施例1,在单体加料结束后不加入过氧化氢。
用实施例1-4的含水缔合性增稠剂组合物制备纸张涂布滑爽剂。纸张涂布滑爽剂具有下列组成:
100重量份颜料(细碎碳酸钙,60,Omya)
10重量份粘合剂(D 628;基于丁二烯、苯乙烯、丙烯腈的聚合物的水分散体)
0.18重量份实施例1-4的增稠剂
固体含量:65%
pH 8.5
在每种情况下测量纸张涂布滑爽剂的粘度和保水性。结果总结于表1中。
按如下测量(Brookfield)粘度:
纸张涂布滑爽剂的粘度在室温(20°C)下使用Brookfield粘度计在100转/分下用2号锭子在该涂布滑爽剂制备之后15分钟测量。
按如下测量根据Gradek的保水性:
保水性(WR)由GRADEK方法测量。该方法在标准化实验室测试中表征涂布滑爽剂的保水性。良好的保水性对于在大的高速纸张涂布装置上加工纸张涂布滑爽剂是非常重要的。使待测试涂布滑爽剂在限定的条件(压力为1巴,测量时间为1分钟)下在滤纸层中的聚碳酸酯膜上脱水。滤纸层吸收的水量以重量分析测定。吸收的水量越大,纸张涂布滑爽剂的保水性越差。吸收的水量以g/m2表示。因为使用不同批料的膜滤器可能出现测量结果偏差,不同涂布滑爽剂的对比在每种情况下使用相同批料的膜滤器进行。所用装置和材料:
Abo Akademi Gravimetric Water Retention压滤装置,天平,可以用其以0.1mg的精度测量,
来自Piper的聚碳酸酯膜滤器,孔度5μm,直径47mm,
Schwarzband滤纸,Schleicher&Schüll,直径9cm,

Claims (8)
1.一种通过如下单体的自由基聚合而形成的缔合性增稠剂:
a)25-55重量%至少一种选自丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸及其混合物的酸单体;
b)0.1-5重量%至少一种如下通式的缔合性单体:
H2C=CR1-COO-(EO)n-R2
其中R1为氢或甲基,n为10-40的数且R2为C10-C30烷基,
c)20-70重量%不同于a)和b)且选自如下通式的那些的非离子性可共聚单体:
CH2=CYZ
其中Y为H、CH3或氯;Z为COOR、CONH2、CONHR、CONR2、C6H4R’、CN、Cl、-OCOR”或CH=CH2;R为C1-C8烷基或C2-C8羟基烷基;R’为H、Cl、Br或C1-C4烷基且R”为C1-C8烷基,
其中所有组分的总重量为100重量%,
其中用于反应产物在聚合之后的反应的引发剂为氧化还原引发剂体系,其中所用氧化性组分为至少一种选自过氧化氢、有机过氧化物和有机氢过氧化物的过氧化物,并且所用还原性组分为无机或有机还原剂。
2.根据权利要求1的缔合性增稠剂,其中所述反应产物在聚合之后与形成非离子性基团的引发剂在至少60℃的温度下反应。
3.一种制备根据权利要求1或2的缔合性增稠剂的方法,其中使包含如下单体的单体混合物进行自由基聚合:
a)25-55重量%至少一种选自丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸及其混合物的酸单体;
b)0.1-5重量%至少一种如下通式的缔合性单体:
H2C=CR1-COO-(EO)n-R2
其中R1为氢或甲基,n为10-40的数且R2为C10-C30烷基,
c)20-70重量%不同于a)和b)且选自如下通式的那些的非离子性可共聚单体:
CH2=CYZ
其中Y为H、CH3或氯;Z为COOR、CONH2、CONHR、CONR2、C6H4R’、CN、Cl、-OCOR”或CH=CH2;R为C1-C8烷基或C2-C8羟基烷基;R’为H、Cl、Br或C1-C4烷基且R”为C1-C8烷基,
其中所有组分的总重量为100重量%,
其中用于反应产物在聚合之后的反应的引发剂为氧化还原引发剂体系,其中所用氧化性组分为至少一种选自过氧化氢、有机过氧化物和有机氢过氧化物的过氧化物,并且所用还原性组分为无机或有机还原剂。
4.一种包含分散于水中的至少一种根据权利要求1或2的缔合性增稠剂的含水增稠剂组合物。
5.根据权利要求1或2的缔合性增稠剂作为纸张涂布滑爽剂用增稠剂的用途。
6.一种纸张涂布滑爽剂,其包含至少一种根据权利要求1或2的缔合性增稠剂、无机颜料、至少一种粘合剂和水。
7.根据权利要求6的纸张涂布滑爽剂,其包含如下组分:
(i)基于100重量份颜料为0.05-2重量份的至少一种根据权利要求1或2的缔合性增稠剂,
(ii)基于总固体含量为80-95重量%的颜料,其选自硫酸钙、硫铝酸钙、硫酸钡、碳酸镁、碳酸钙、硅酸、铝氧化物、氢氧化铝、硅酸盐、二氧化钛、氧化锌、高岭土、矾土、滑石和二氧化硅,
(iii)基于100重量份颜料为1-25重量份至少一种粘合剂。
8.一种涂敷有根据权利要求6或7的纸张涂布滑爽剂的纸张或卡纸板。
