Description

Triple-valve railroad brake. The subject of the invention is a triple-valve which is used in pneumatic brake devices for railways.

It is known that in a triple-valve the re-supply of the auxiliary reservoir is effected by the flow of compressed air through the so-called supply grooves formed in the piston.

These grooves are necessarily small in section in order to ensure that the piston of the triple valve is sensitive to the depressions created in the general pipe. The flow of air from the general pipe to the chamber of the triple-valve spool is therefore necessarily slow and it may be advantageous in certain cases to increase the flow, or to operate the rapid refill of the tank. auxiliary, or to quickly release a differential brake in which a triple-valve acting as an exhaust accelerator would have been used to cause rapid tightening and where the release is effected by sending air through the feed grooves would be considered too slow.

The invention essentially consists in moving the piston of a triple-valve to a valve in order to allow the air coming from the general pipe to flow more rapidly into the chamber of the spool.

The accompanying drawing gives, by way of example, a section of a triple-valve according to the invention, the piston of which is provided with a valve.

The triple-valve shown is similar to ordinary triple-valves and differs only in that the piston a is provided with a valve b resting on a seat whose body c is screwed into the piston. A light spring rests the valve on its seat. After releasing the brakes, the piston a occupies the position shown in the drawing, in which it is supplied by the compressed air coming from the main pipe. From the chamber f of the present triple'-valve; the air enters through the grooves of the piston into the chamber 1a of the drawer and from there flows through the channel i to the auxiliary reservoir. When the piston is fitted with the valve b, the air coming from the general pipe lifts the valve and thus allows much faster recharging of the auxiliary tank.

When a vacuum is produced in the general pipe, the pressurized air from the auxiliary tank, that is to say from the chamber h, presses the valve b on its seat at the same time as it lowers the piston and the latter moves the spool to send the air from the auxiliary reservoir into the brake cylinder.

The triple-valve, which is the subject of the present invention, therefore makes it possible to accelerate the replenishment, either of an auxiliary reservoir or of a differential brake cylinder.

Instead of a valve, a ball, or some other suitable valve device, could be employed.
