Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Horizontal washing machine with a washing drum rotating in a vessel.

   The usual washing machines consist of a metal sieve drum mounted in a heatable vessel, which can be rotated about its axis and is provided with a reversing device.

   It is now known that this reversing device can be omitted if the sieve drum in which the laundry is located is divided into several compartments by axially arranged transverse walls. This arrangement probably makes the reversing device superfluous
Items to be washed do not tangle together; the arrangement, however, has the disadvantage that, as a result of the little room for movement of the items to be washed, cleaning is insufficient because the items to be washed collapse into a lump. The washing liquid and that required for foam formation
Air do not have sufficient access to the interior of the laundry. Tests have now shown that it is possible to eliminate this deficiency if the longitudinal wall of the drum consists of axially arranged rods.

   It is known that this wall can be made from longitudinal bars which have a driver rib on the inside.

   It has now been found that such a rigid construction has an inadequate washing effect due to the small room for movement of the laundry. In order to achieve thorough cleaning, the washing liquid must have sufficient access to the air required for foam formation. This effect is achieved in that the longitudinal bars in contrast to the known
Constructions are rotatably mounted about their own axis and are also provided with grooves in order to press as much air into the washing liquid as possible.

   In the drawings, an embodiment of the invention is shown. Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section, Fig. 2 shows a cross section of the machine, Fig. 3 shows the cross section of one of the longitudinal bars. a is the washing vessel, b the washing drum, e one of the round rods preferably made of wood, d the grooves in the round rod.
