After thirty years of its invention, the T-Scan system, a computerized occlusal analyzer, seems to be the answer in diagnosing and treating patients with occlusion-related temporomandibular disorders. This book is based on a Health Technology Assessment that includes a review of the diagnostic, clinical and economic features of the T-Scan system. Evidence indicates that the T-Scan system is far more accurate and reliable than the conventional methods of occlusal analysis such as the articulating paper. Furthermore, the T-Scan system is able to record quantitative data on occlusal force and contact timing, which cannot be achieved through conventional occlusal registration techniques.

Over the years, dental specialties have emerged in faculties of dentistry due to the advancements within specific areas of treatment, and they have been incorporated if not into each university, at least into virtually every province. In Canada the Commission on Dental Accreditation reviews and accredits the following nine dental specialties programs: dental public health; endodontics; oral and maxillofacial surgery; oral medicine and pathology; oral and maxillofacial radiology; orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics; pediatric dentistry; periodontics; and prosthodontics

Many surgical techniques have been proposed for the correction of dental root exposition. Bilaminar techniques (BTs) have been reported as offering the best results in terms of root coverage
(RC). However, BTs require a second surgical site to harvest the graft causing discomfort forthe patient. The use of an acellular dermal matrix (ADM) avoids the need for a donor site. The aim
of this study was to compare clinical results of 2 BTs by using autogenous connective tissue (CT) or ADM, 15 subjects in each group.
Conclusion: The CT and ADM subepithelial grafts proved to be successful for the gingival recession defects treatment; however, the CT group obtained significantly a greater gain in Keratinized Tissue.
Key words: Gingival recession, bilaminar technique, gingival recession, root coverage, acellular dermal matrix, Alloderm, periodontal therapy, surgery.

Objective: To establish, by reviewing the literature, the relationship between smoking and periodontal disease. Tobacco has a toxic effect on the periodontium and reduces the functional activity of leukocytes and macrophages; it decreases the phagocytosis of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, promoting an increase in the proportion of anaerobic bacteria in plaque, and presenting an increase in the levels of certain periodontal pathogens, alveolar bone loss, periodontal pocket formation, increased clinical attachment loss, furcation involvement, and tooth mobility. Smoking interferes with the healing of wounds and results in a lower response in guided tissue regeneration procedures, as well as less success in the osseointegration of implants and bone grafts. Smoking is strongly related to periodontal destruction in young adults between the second and third decade of life, the effect being more pronounced in women.
Conclusion: Tobacco is a major risk factor in the development and severity of periodontal disease, as well as in the response to periodontal therapy. It is essential that methods be employed to increase awareness of the adverse effects on the oral cavity directly related to smoking, specifically the relationship between the latter and its impact on periodontal tissue.

For edentulous patients implant supported Overdentures have helped in restoring life-like prosthesis with successful function, phonetics and esthetics. In Overdentures attachments play a vital role, one of them is the locator attachment, which has become the preferred attachment for free standing implant overdenture applications since its introduction seven years ago.
Bar-overdentures offer the benefit of splinting of the implants within the arch for removable applications and provide better stability and retention then free standing attachments. It also provides self-aligning ability and dual retention. The Locator attachment may also be used in bar-overdenture applications. In this article different techniques for utilization of the Locator attachment for bar-overdentures will be reviewed.

According to Health Canada Oral health refers to the health of your teeth and your mouth. Maintaining good oral health includes keeping your teeth free from cavities and keeping your gums free from disease.
Did You Know
Poor oral health can affect more than just your mouth; it can affect other areas of your body as well. In fact there is now research that shows the connection between poor oral health and systemic disease such as diabetes in people of all ages and respiratory diseases particularly among elderly people. Also there is new research now pointing to possible connections between oral health and other systemic conditions such as heart disease and premature, low birth weight babies.
"It is important to maintain the health of your mouth and teeth throughout your lifetime".
