У ІІІ і IV томах “Українського асоціативного словника” представлено
результати психолінгвістичного експерименту з носіями української мови. Цей Словник є продовженням “Українського асоціативного словника” (у 2-х томах, 2007, 2008 рр.). У Словнику надано реакції на 1 494 стимули, які були відібрані серед найчастотніших реакцій попереднього видання, що дає змогу розширити дослідження ментального лексикону мовців. Реакції респондентів жіночої і чоловічої статі у Словнику подані окремо, що уможливлює його використання для гендерних досліджень. Цілісно розглянуті, матеріали Словника допомагають виявити культурно-специфічні особливості концептуальної картини світу, втіленої в українській мові.
Для мовознавців і викладачів української мови, зокрема тих, хто викладає її як іноземну, перекладачів, психологів, соціологів, етнологів, а також студентів і аспірантів усіх названих спеціальностей.

Since cognitive linguistics explores the conceptual structures of human consciousness through their language manifestations relying on empirical methods, it provides a new approach to the study of binary oppositions. Despite numerous studies of this phenomenon, many of the questions raised here have not been fully answered. As binary oppositions are not absolutely stable structures inherent to human consciousness, we need to study them within specific linguacultures and explore their modification over different periods of time.
This article presents an empirical study of the binary opposition sviy ’us (our)’ – chuzhyy ’them (their)’ in the minds of Ukrainian speakers based on the method of an
associative experiment conducted in the period from 6 November 2022 to 29 February
2024. The data obtained were compared with the results of the experiments recorded in the Associative Thesaurus of the Ukrainian Language (UAS 2007).
The aim of the study is to analyse the binary opposition sviy ’us (our)’ – chuzhyy
’them (their)’ and changes in its content and evaluative characteristics in the minds of
Ukrainian speakers as a result of the Russo-Ukrainian war.

W artykule przeanalizowano leksykalne eksponenty konceptosfery ZDOROWJA w ukraińskim obrazie świata. Podstawę materiałową stanowią źródła leksykograficzne. Opisano zmiany znaczeń leksemów zdorowyj i zdorowja w słownikach ogólnych języka staroukraińskiego i ukraińskiego. Przedstawiono związki frazeologiczne z komponentami zdorowyj i zdorowja, wyekscerpowane ze słowników ogólnych i frazeologicznych. Określono relacje paradygmatyczne wyrazów zdorowyj i zdorowja na podstawie danych zawartych w słownikach synonimów i antonimów. Zwrócono uwagę na rozpowszechnione w ostatnich latach w języku ukraińskim wyrażenia (fizyczne, psychiczne, reproduktywne, socialne zdorowja; ochorona zdorowja; zdorowja naciji; fizyczno, psychiczno zdorowyj; zdorowyj sposib żyttia), które dotychczas nie doczekały się specjalistycznego opracowania w zródłach leksykograficznych.

Cognitive linguistics considers language as a window into human consciousness providing insights into its structures and reflecting fundamental properties of the human mind. Therefore, it reveals new prospects in studying binary oppositions within human consciousness via their language manifestations. This study aims to analyse the interplay of cognitive mechanisms of contradistinction and conceptual metaphors. The paper presents an empirical investigation of the binary opposition LIGHT-DARK based on the data of the Associative Thesauri. The working hypothesis is that associative network is motivated by hierarchical conceptual structures existing in the speakers’ minds. Therefore,  responses evoked by certain stimuli can be regarded as the reflection of corresponding conceptual structures. The responses obtained via AE confirm a tight connection between LIGHT and DARK and human ability of seeing as it was described by Wierzbicka (1996: 288).
Furthermore, the obtained responses give possibility to trace the ways, in which LIGHT – ABILITY OF SEEING – REASONING, on the one hand, and DARK – INABILITY TO SEE – ABSENCE OF KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION, on the other hand, are interconnected and all together generate metaphors in systematic way. The analysis of the responses reveals binary oppositions interacting with the opposition LIGHT – DARK. The consciousness of contemporary bearers of languages and cultures preserves deep-rooted relations of the light – dark opposition with the corresponding parts of other binary oppositions, namely day – night; sun – moon; white – black, red – black; sky – earth; happiness – unhappiness, life – death, etc. within the evaluative opposition positive – negative. Blended with metaphorical mappings, the LIGHT – DARK opposition creates complex mental images, which can be termed ‘oppositional metaphors’.

Статтю присвячено проблемі універсальності опозиції СВІТЛИЙ–ТЕМНИЙ та
основним  стратегіям  її  мовної  концептуалізації.  Встановлено,  що  способи  її
вербалізації можуть бути зумовлені як нейрофізіологічними властивостями людини, так і історією, культурою та довкіллям, у якому проживає певний етнос.

Cognitive Linguistics, which primarily deals with the conceptual structures of human mind via their language manifestation, opens new prospects in study- ing binary oppositions. Despite numerous researches of this phenomenon, lots of questions raised here do not have
exhaustive answers. What we need is not only inquiry oriented toward ascertainment of the universality (or the degree of universality) of some binary oppositions, but studies of their system in a certain linguaculture within a given time period. The precise study of interrelations
among various symbolic domains in this sphere is another important problem. Furthermore, binary oppositions should not be seen as stable and unchangeable structures presented within human consciousness but they must be regarded as the external manifestation of specific cognitive
mechanisms. This  paper  presents  an  empirical investigation  of  the  binary  opposition
LIGHT-DARK based on the method of an associative experiment. The analysis of the responses clearly reveals binary oppositions which are deep-rooted in the speakers’ consciousness and which closely interact. These oppositions build a rich background for the metaphorical interchange between corresponding domains which create a whole system where the correlating parts are used
for the metaphoric designation of each other. The main focus of this study is the interaction of cognitive mechanisms of contradistinction with conceptual metaphor and further analysis of the result of this process in a language.

Проаналізовано відображення концептосфери ЗДОРОВ'Я в українській мовній картині світу за даними лексикографічних джерел. Описано зміни у значенні лексем здоровий і здоров'я за матеріалами словників староукраїнської та сучасної української мови; окреслено їхні парадигматичні зв'язки та охарактеризовано окремі деривати з коренем здоров-. Представлено фразеологічні одиниці з компонентами здоровий і здоров'я. Усталені та індивідуально-авторські порівняння, у яких реалізовано різні значення лексеми здоровий, охарактеризовано за типом об'єктів, що слугують для них еталонами. Ключові слова: концептосфера, лінгвокультура; етимологічні, історичні, тлумачні, фразеологічні словники; словники синонімів, антонімів.

The conceptual sphere of robota ‘work’ in the Ukrainian linguaculture

The article analyzes the conceptual sphere of robota ‘work’, whose basic linguistic exponents in the Ukrainian language are the lexemes pracia, robota, and trud. The importance of the conceptual sphere of robota in the Ukrainian linguaculture is borne out by the polysemous nature of the words pracia, robota,and trud, their use in texts belonging to various functional styles, and a significant number of derivatives, synonyms, idioms and maxims associated with those words. Performing the analysis, the authoress sought to draw up a cognitive definition of the concept of robota. She studied the lexicographical definitions of the lexemes pracia and robota and partially also of the word trud (including their derivatives), their etymology and synonyms. The analyses take account of the results of surveys conducted in 2013–2014 among students of humanities and engineering of universities in Lviv and Khmelnytskyi. The study also investigates the uses of the words pracia and robota in journalistic texts using material selected from the corpus of the Ukrainian language (www.mova.info) and newspapers published in different regions of the Ukraine.

The author investigates, from the cognitivist perspective, the US/THEM opposition in the consciousness of contemporary native speakers of Ukrainian. The study aims to reveal the archetypal reflexes of an old semiotic system and the changes it has undergone in the conceptual structures of present-day Ukrainians. An associative experiment has been used for the purpose. On the one hand, the data show the importance of the US/THEM opposition for contemporary speakers of Ukrainian, and on the other reveal the processes which take place in correlative conceptual structures: the broadening and changes in the sphere of US (belonging to us) / THEM (belonging to them), numerous oppositions between those spheres and active dependencies between components of these oppositions. Associative reactions allow one to explicate the connections between the US/THEM opposition and those of CLOSE/DISTANT or HOME/FOREST, which points to the existence of interlinked clusters within a holistic system of oppositions. Also discussed are processes which take place in the system of binary oppositions (asymmetry, the broadening of one of the terms at the expense of the other) and genre-related differences in the conceptualization of US and THEM. The very existence of binary oppositions, though with different hierarchies in different cultures, is a result of the functioning of a cognitive mechanism as a universal one. For example, concentric arrangement in the structuring of the space of US and THEM is viewed as a result of the processes of generalization and specialization co-functioning with a cognitive mechanism responsible for the formation of binary oppositions.
