This paper treads my long-term field research on the dualist religious movement called Bogomilism that is located along the ancient Roman communication of Via Egnatia and in the valley of Pelagonia. I discuss various written historical sources and topography in the region of Western Macedonia where Bogomilism had its strongholds. In addition, I also deal with some of the neglected monuments and remnants of the Bogomilism in the region. There are two ways in promoting this complex research: theoretical and topographical analysis of the Bogomil faith within the context of place and time. Here I also include archaeological, ethnographical and theological investigation of the religious group labeled as Bogomil.

The book provides a detailed account of the development of Islamic, Christian and Sephardic religious architecture and culture as it manifested in the town of Manastır. Originally a town on the edge of of the ancient Roman road of Via Egnatia, this town gradually developed into a significant administrative, military , religious , cultural and intellectual centre for the Rumeli province; a vibrant place, nurturing multi-cultural and multi-confessional values with considerable influence on the formation of modern Balkan identities.
This present work is the culmination of thirty years of research using primary. source material from archives and historical sources and the buildings themselves for the purpose of preserving and extending the boundaries of current knowledge. It offers a comprehensive biography of a great cultural knot in the Balkans and offers a rich  source for further research.

The knowledge acquired so far on the medieval history of Bitola is indeed modest. In the last decades, however, significant progress has been made through the systematic archaeological research in and around the Yeni mosque and the subsequent processing of the discovered material. Naturally, the medieval written sources have always been kept in sight, but in this period the auxiliary discipline of sigillography made a remarquable appearence. The first archaeological investigations of medieval Bitola were initiated within the framework of the project entitled "Localization of medieval Bitola", under the leadership of PhD Tome Yanakievski 1 , and in the period between 2004 and 2010 further research was conducted under the leadership of the councilor-custodian archaeologist Gordana Filipovska-Lazarovska, yielding the remains of about four Christian basilical edifices and a mosque edifice. 2 Five horizons correspond to four basilicas and an older mosque on the foundations of which was built the new. The phases of construction of the church are defined by the architecture, the masonry, the chemical analyses of the mortar used in the construction, 3 as well as by the stratigraphic analyses. The fifth, historical horizon. The main building of the Yeni mosque is located on the right bank of the river Dragor, in the area where the Ottoman Pekmez pazarı with the Clock tower was, nowadays park area. The mosque is a part of the cultural heritage of the town.

The Byzantine seals found in the fortress of ‘Kale’ in Skopje are the largest collection of such items in the Republic of Macedonia. It includes some eighty lead seals discovered in archaeological excavations in the period between 2007 and 2012. This collection represents an important and authentic epigraphic source shedding additional light on the history of Byzantine and pre-Ottoman Skopje and its surrounds. The prominence of the Byzantine fortress of ‘Kale’ at Skopje was due to its excellent strategic position, on the crossroad of the Morava-Vardar corridor and it was connected with the Adriatic coast on the west, the Via Militaris on the east, and the Via Egnatia on the southwest.
As it happens, the chronological sequence was frequently interrupted. Last moment finds indicate that this collection of almost eighty Byzantine seals is neither final nor exhaustive. There follows a study supported by the Museum of Macedonia in Skopje and a catalogue of these rare sigillographic finds which aims to enrich Byzantine prosopography with new personalities; with new and hitherto unknown information, and a bulk of unique sfragistic data containing imperial, administrative, military and clerical representatives. The finds of Byzantine, Bulgarian and Venetian seals at the ‘Kale’ fortress are setting new frontiers for the medieval history of the Balkans and the Byzantine world.

A study of Byzantine lead seals s that have been recently found in the Yeni-mosque in Bitola, then one in the surroundings of Heraclea Lyncestis, another one at the Mordthmann collection and finally in the Museum of Ioannina bring forth new views on the medieval episcopal see on the Dragor River. These seals witness the predominantly least clarified period that follows after the fall of Tsar Samuel’s empire and the Byzantine reclaiming of Pelagonian region and continue all the way through the long rule of the Komnenian dynasty.
