The high speed (4D) body scanning provides technical possibility for accurate measurements of the body geometry and can be applied not only for moving objects, but as well for evaluating the changes of static geometry with time. This information is important for compression socks, because it provides data regarding the relaxation processes of the textile product and of the human leg. In this work, changes of the body geometry after 1 and 4 hours with compression socks are investigated. Up to 9% changes of the cross section areas and up to 5.5% of changes of the circumference between the position at the starting point and after 4 hours are detected. Additionally the differences between the both legs of the investigated person and of the different (upper- and bottom) part of the leg are observed. It is the first step to the digitalization of the personal compression stocking design.

The aim of this project is to create novel elastic knitted materials with improved comfort for medical products. In this context, warp knitted structures were produced using different weft threads laying in. The elastic warp knitted fabric produced with transverse weft threads for the whole width was used as a reference sample. It is widely used in medical products. Laying in weft threads with a partial set according to a certain repeat allows us to get structures in which there is no connection in adjacent wales in certain places. This leads to the formation of through holes in the structure. As a result of increased permeability, comfort properties are improving. The structure, functional and comfort properties of developed and reference elastic warp knitted fabrics were investigated. It was found that novel elastic fabrics have higher values of comfort indicators and provide the necessary functional properties.

The demand for medical textile products is increasing with awareness regarding better healthcare services and efficient medical treatments. Compared to other textiles, elastic warp knitted materials, which have elastomer threads in each wale have been widely used in producing medical and preventive products. Thus, in order to decrease the weight and cost of these products without effect on fabric’s stretchability, in this study, various elastic warp knitted fabrics were produced using different raw materials and elastomer threading arrangements, and their properties were investigated. The fabrics were produced on a crochet knitting machine with five different arrangements of elastomer threading and four different laid-in yarn materials as polyester, cotton, and linen. Then the dimensional properties and elastic behaviors of the samples were determined and evaluated comparatively. Statistical analysis showed that all studied elastic warp knitted fabrics have high provide elasticity a...

This paper presents results of an investigation on the stretch characteristics (full strain and its parts) of fillet warp knitted fabric with elastomeric yarn longwise inlaying. In order to undertake the study of the influence of in-layed yarn positioning and of fillet interloping repeat different types of fillet warp knit fabrics with in-lay yarn were produced. The array of data for the various design options provide analytical tool for making comparisons about the mechanical properties of the warp knit fillet structures with elastomeric inlayed yarn. It is observed that the repeat of fillet interloping and the position of in-laying yarn have some effect on stretch characteristics of warp knit structures. It is a consequence of a different relaxation of inlayed yarn in structure. Elastic strain is the largest part of the full strain of warp knit fabric and the part of residual strain does not exceed 0.11

The features of elasticized knitted fabric are: high extensibility, elasticity and adaptability to a body shape and a compression effect when it is used in the extended state. The elasticity of a knitted fabric is enhanced by the incorporation of elastane thread or core-spun yarn into the knitted structure as the weft yarn that is laid in the stretching direction. The quality of elasticized knitted fabrics is determined by the reliability of the how the elastomeric yarn is fixed within as the structure is deformed with an increase in the contact areas between the elastomeric and conventional yarns. The high fixing level can be achieved by the nature of loops formed from the elastomeric yarn. The simultaneous union of both conditions is possible with miss-knitting of elastomeric yarn through a certain number of needles. The main purpose of this study is to establish the influence of miss knit repeat of elastomeric yarn on the structural parameters and determine the stretch properties...

The loop length is the main parameter of the knitted structure, that affect the fabrics density and its basic weight as well as air permeability, strength, elasticity, and other properties. It affects also extensibility, width and length of product and, therefore, a whole appearance of the item. The study of the influence of knitting technological parameters on the loop length of elastic warp knitted fabric for the rehabilitation and preventional goods manufacture is the purpose of this research. The three-factor experiment has been planned and carried out during this study. The linear density of the weft filling-in yarn, the pre-elongation of an elastomeric thread and the tension of ground yarn were chosen as input factors. The regression equations that adequately describe the dependencies of the loop length on these technological parameters have been established.Dužina petlje je osnovni parametar pletene strukture, koja utiče na gustinu tkanine i njenu osnovnu težinu, kao i propus...

This paper presents results of an investigation on the design options available for positioning the inlaid yarn in fillet warp knit structures. The geometry and structural parameters using our previously published methodology are also presented. It is shown, for example, that if inlaying guide bar does the shifting behind the needles at two needle pitch (variants 1.11-1.13, Table.1) the filling yarn wraps the junctures from G1 ground yarns according to repeat. This position of in-laying yarn provides good stability in the fabric structure, which improves with the amount of wrapping. Thus, the different positions of the inlaid yarn within the structures offer other possibilities that could be explored when designing fillet warp knit auxetic structures. The array of data for the various design options provide analytical tool for making comparisons about the physical, structural and mechanical properties of the warp knit fillet structures. It is observed that the position of in-laying ...

The fabrics designing by a given surface density as well as by a basis weight (gram per square meter) are the main methods ofknitted materials production. The actual value of this parameters may differ from the given one. Today the actual basis weight of knitted fabrics is determined by weighing a sample of a certain width and length and subsequently performing the relevant conversion (ISO 3801: 1977). This method involves a destruction of the material. A non-destructive ultrasonic method for determining the basis weight of textile materials was developed at the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design, which is based on a determination·ofthe amplitude ratio ofultrasonic waves falling on the fabric and the waves passing through it. This method allows to control a continuous operational process throughout the production cycle. However, a method has limitations in determining the basis weight oftextile materials with variable porosity, such as knitted fabrics. To improve the ...

National arts and crafts are not only the skills of an individual nation but an ethnic phenomenon that has unique features and serves as a source of information on national history and culture. Decorative and applied art in Ukraine combines the traditions and techniques of manufacturing and decoration, which have been developed and passed down from generation to generation. It has a clear national identity and numerous regional differ¬ences in ornamental motifs, compositions and favourite colours. Therefore, the Ukrainian folk art has a significant potential and is a source of ideas in creating modern clothing as well as interior items. Embroidery as a way of creating ornamental motifs on a textile material using various techniques is a common process for decorating clothes and interiors for the Ukrainians. Today, ornamental compositions of embroidered folk textiles could be transmitted into modern clothes using various technologies. However, the use of a knitting machine allows cre...

Mesh fabric is widely used for different purposes especially in the technic and medicine. Warp knitting with its fillet interlooping is the most common technology for mesh production. The vast majority of fillet structures has typical mesh macrostructure and provides the wide range of cell's shapes and sizes, which affect the physical-mechanical properties and basic density of knitted fabric. It's possible to change the cell's size from the minimum to the maximum at a constant shape and constant technological conditions of knitting in warp knit fabric with hexagonal cells that is preferred for technical textiles. For this reason, the two tasks have been solved in this research: to establish rules of the hexagonal cells formation in the fillet knit structure and to determine the factors that influence the cells size. The basic principles of formation of hexagonal cells in fillet warp knitted structures have been formulated in this article as a result of the theoretical an...

Abstract The purpose of the study is to design and develop an instrument for non-destructive measurement of basis weight of fabrics. Weight per square meter is a major product quality of textile materials but its control during production is still limited. The observed dependency of the amplitude pulsed ultrasonic signal transmitted through a textile material on its basis weight informed the recommendation of this method for determining the basis weight of fabrics. The ultrasonic method of non-destructive testing of basis weight of textile materials has been incorporated into the experimental system. We investigated the basis weight of woven fabrics using the proposed ultrasonic system and the standard method and the results show high correlation. It is concluded that the proposed ultrasonic method can be used for the continuous operational control of the basis weight of textile materials during production.

The article seeks to discuss the issues of internationalization for higher education institutions that arose with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, in particular, the suspension of both student and staff academic mobility. However, academic mobility is the fundamental premise for the internationalization of higher education where students who cross borders with the desire to change their lives and the strive for better prospects are the most critical element of this mobility. The mobility of all the education process participants has become an important driver in ensuring and promoting education transparency and the access to quality education for everyone. In fact, within the past six months, prospective students are increasingly changing their intentions to study abroad, or defer their enrolment plans for subsequent years. The aim of this paper is to explore possible solutions for further implementation of internationalization principles into all university's activities frame...

Today we can’t imagine our life without electricity and technology, transport and television. In the information age, computers, the Internet, cell phones, and smartphones are helpers for everyday needs. However, our environment and comfortable living in it can be detrimental to our health. It is hard to realize the fact that such a global technical breakthrough has hit human health. Exposure to electromagnetic radiation could lead to changes in the structure of nerve cells and blood formulas, deformation of the circulatory system, pathology of the endocrine system, decreased immunity, and so on. Nowadays the development of innovative textiles with electromagnetic radiation shielding is a relevant topic that promotes the creation of a flexible protective screen for the human being and various electronic devices. Textiles themselves do not protect against electromagnetic radiation; however, the textiles can be successfully converted into protective material after changing the raw mat...

Knitted fabrics and products are subjected to a variety of stresses and loads/deformation during their usage. The loads are different by value, by direction, and by duration. The alternations of loading and unloading or resting processes affect the knitted structure and could bring about changes in the linear dimensions of the fabric or result in the deformation of the knitted items and ultimately the loss of product appearance or its functional properties. A wide range of textile materials resistant to multiply loads was produced by using elastomeric yarn that has an elongation of more than 95% and is able to attain full recovery after relaxation due to its chemical composition. This case study examines two existing test methods for evaluating the stretch properties of textile materials produced with the elastomeric yarns with emphasis on warp knitted abdominal binder-type fabrics. It was found that the linear density of the weft in-laying threads and the preliminary tension of the...

Two main methods employed in designing knitted fabrics for production rely on a given surface density or on the basis weight (grams per square meter). The actual value of these parameters may differ. Normally, the actual basis weight of knitted fabrics is determined by weighing a sample of a certain width and length and subsequently performing the relevant conversion (ISO 3801:1977). This method involves a destruction or wasting of the material. A non-destructive ultrasonic method for determining the basis weight of textile materials was developed, which is based on a determination of the amplitude ratio of ultrasonic waves falling on the fabric and the waves passing through it. However, this method has limitations in determining the basis weight of textile materials with variable porosity, such as knitted fabrics. To improve the developed method, it is proposed to continue the measuring of an amplitude of the reflected wave from the fabric surface. In this case, it is possible to m...

Some exceptional materials become fatter when stretched and are described as auxetics or having negative Poisson’s ratio. Auxetic textiles belong to this class of extraordinary materials that are increasingly attaining some prominence in many applications of technical textiles. We have sustained the efforts to fabricate auxetic fabric structures based on non‐auxetic yarns. The focus is to combine our knowledge of geometry and fabric structural characteristics to engineer auxetic textiles and to determine the properties of such auxetic textile fabrics. To realize our objective, we designed and investigated hexagonal knit structures as auxetic textiles offering optimum performance. The factors that influence Poisson’s ratio are identified as yarn type, number of chain courses and strain level. Also, a method has been developed for quantifying the geometrical structural unit cell of the auxetic structure based on measured parameters, namely a 1, a 2, b 1, b 2, h and c, as detailed in this paper.
