Introduction Imperial College Teddy Bear Hospital (ICSM-TBH) is a student-led volunteering group, which uses interactive, play-based teaching to educate school pupils aged 5–7 years about healthy lifestyles and healthcare. During the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteering sessions shifted online. The aim of this study was to compare the value of online and in-person ICSM-TBH volunteering for volunteers and school pupils. Methods Undergraduate university students at Imperial College London (medicine can be taken as a first degree in the UK) who volunteered with ICSM-TBH between 2019 and 22 were invited to complete an anonymous online questionnaire evaluating their experiences of volunteering online and in-person through Likert-scale questions. Those who completed the questionnaire were also invited to an interview. O presente trabalho incidiu sobre a análise de um conjunto de crónicas humorísticas e satíricas da autoria de Ricardo Araújo Pereira, publicadas entre Dezembro de 2011 e Março de 2013, na revista de grande informação Visão, com o objetivo de isolar um conjunto de recorrências enunciativo-pragmáticas no discurso do autor. Das recorrências identificadas, foram selecionadas para este trabalho aquelas que mais de perto se relacionam com o tema ‘modalização e géneros discursivos’, tais como certos marcadores de modalização, epistémica, deôntica e apreciativa, usados na construção do tom irónico. Outras recorrências, como a intertextualidade e interdiscursividade, e a invocação de ‘vozes’ de outros, voltadas, ora para a validação do seu próprio discurso, ora para a desqualificação do discurso do Outro, dão cumprimento à dimensão pragmática de sátira das suas crónicas. A biblioterapia é um processo interativo, numa integração bem-sucedida de sentimentos, valores e ações, visando um processo harmónico e equilibrado de crescimento e desenvolvimento pessoal. Para uma seleção adequada dos textos que servem de base à leitura terapêutica, o género narrativo da literatura parece mais viável ao leitor para encontrar uma projeção íntima de si nas personagens que vivem nestes textos, tendo em conta as particularidades de cada pessoa. Introduction: Benign Transient Hyperphosphatasemia (BTH) is characterised by transient elevation of serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in the absence of liver or bone disease. It has been associated to several entities, namely infections. Case report: We describe the case of a healthy twoyear-old child with intermittent episodes of fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and soft stool since two months ago, with no relevant changes on physical examination. The exams revealed elevated ALP (2474 U/L), with normal liver function, calcium and phosphorus. The stool culture was positive for Campylobacter jejuni. Clinical condition was resolved after antibiotic therapy with azithromycin. Six months later serum ALP values were normal. Conclusion: The age of presentation, the absence of underlying disease and subsequent normalization of ALP allow the diagnosis of BTH. The Full Outline of UnResponsiveness - FOUR scale has been previously validated to assess impaired consciousness in the adult population. The aim of this study is the translation into Portuguese and validation of the FOUR scale in the pediatric population. The study also compares the FOUR scale and Glasgow coma scale score ratings and the clinical outcome of patients hospitalized in Pediatric Intensive Care Units. This study prospectively rated patients admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Units with impaired consciousness during one year. Both scales were applied daily to patients by three types of examiners: intensivists, residents and nurses, from the moment of admission until clinical discharge. Neurological sequelae was evaluated using the King's Outcome Scale for Childhood Head Injury - KOSCHI. Twenty seven patients between one and 17 years of age were included. O objetivo deste estudo é relatar a experiência de construção de um instrumento para registro da sistematização da assistência de enfermagem em uma unidade de tratamento dialítico. Para esta construção, utilizou-se o instrumento formulado com base na literatura sobre diagnósticos de enfermagem em pacientes nefropatas. O instrumento de registro foi analisado conforme: diagramação e facilitação do processo. O processo teve como norteador a teoria das Necessidades Humanas Básicas e a taxonomia da North American Nursing Diagnosis Association. O instrumento tem facilitado a implantação do processo de enfermagem na unidade de hemodiálise. Com o seu uso, foi possível o registro organizado e conciso dos dados e uso de informações importantes para o planejamento e avaliação da assistência prestada.

For a long time, motorcycles were the only vehicles with daytime running lights (DRLs), but this conspicuity advantage has been questioned due to the rapidly increasing introduction of DRLs on cars as well. The present experiment was designed to assess effects of car DRLs on motorcycle perception in a situation that specifically brought attentional conspicuity to bear. Photographs representing complex urban traffic scenes were displayed briefly (250 ms) to 24 participants who had to detect vulnerable road users (motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians) appearing at different locations and distances. Car DRLs hampered motorcycle perception compared to conditions where car lights were not on, especially when the motorcycle was at a greater distance from the observer and when it was located in the central part of the visual scene. Car DRLs also hampered the perception of cyclists and pedestrians. Although the globally positive safety effect of car DRLs is generally acknowledged, our study suggests that more attention should be paid to motorcyclists and other vulnerable road users when introducing car DRLs. Several means of improving motorcycle conspicuity in car DRL environments are discussed.
