Objective: This study aimed to reveal a process model of the relations between automatic thoughts, dysfunctional attitudes, social problem-solving skills, and social media addiction. In this context, the aim was to investigate the mediating effect of automatic thoughts and social problem-solving skills in the relationship between intermediate beliefs and social media addiction. Methods: This study included 56 male and 107 female young adults aged 18-25 years who were referred to the psychiatry outpatient clinic of Yenimahalle Training and Research Hospital, Ankara, Turkey. The participants completed sociodemographic data form, social problem-solving inventory revised form, social media addiction scale, dysfunctional attitudes scale short form, and automatic thoughts questionnaire. In the data analysis, the effect and mediation were tested by the process method. Results: Dysfunctional attitudes positively affected social media addiction and automatic thoughts and negatively affected social problem solving. According to this, the effect of dysfunctional attitudes on social media addiction was mediated by automatic thoughts and social problem solving. Conclusion: In this sense, both cognitive and behavioral processes can be useful in the treatment of social media addiction, and cognitive behavioral therapies can be an effective option.

BACKGROUND In previous studies, the relationship between career choice and psychological factors has been discussed many times. On the other hand, we have less information about interaction between early maladaptive schemas and career choice. SUBJECTS AND METHODS We planned to evaluate the specialty preferences of doctors in the perspective of schema theory. Doctors from the 2 to 10 years of their careers were included in the study. A Sociodemographic data form and Young Schema Questionnaire - Short Form 3 was applied to 275 participants; 167 clinical specialties and 108 surgical specialties. RESULTS According to our results surgeons scored higher in emotional deprivation, mistrust / abuse, social isolation / alienation, defectiveness / shame, and emotional inhibition. As schema domains, surgeons scored higher disconnection and rejection and excessive responsibility and standards. CONCLUSIONS Early maladaptive schemas can affect the choice of profession and the ability to adapt. Und...

Structuring short-term and group-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) will make an important contribution to cost-effectiveness. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of our five-session CBGT protocol in reducing panic disorder symptoms and beliefs underlying this disorder in the perspective of cognitive theory. A protocol of five sessions was applied with forty-six patients who were diagnosed with panic disorder and volunteered for the study. A sociodemographic data form, the Panic Disorder Severity Scale (PDSS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Body Sensations Questionnaire (BSQ), Agoraphobic Cognition Scale (ACS), and Health Anxiety Scale (HAS) were administered to the patients by the study team. The scales were reapplied before the group process started, after the 2nd session, after the 5th session, and at the 6th month after the end of the therapy process. A significant change was observed between baseline and 6th-month control...

Introduction: Increased depression and anxiety incidence in infertile individuals treated with assisted reproductive techniques have been shown in studies. Postoperative pain perception after testicular sperm extraction (TESE) is thought to be related to preoperative anxiety in non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA). Materials and methods: Twenty patients with Klinefelter syndrome (KS) and twenty male patients with normal karyotype NOA planned for TESE under local anaesthesia due to azoospermia were included in the study. Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-T and STAI-S) inventory was given to all patients 1 h before surgery. Postoperative pain evaluation was performed at 0, 30, 60 and 120 min with visual analogue scale (VAS). STAI-T inventory was given to the patients again 2 h after the procedure. Results: Preoperative STAI-S and STAI-T scores and postoperative STAI-T scores of patients in the KS group were higher than those in the NOA group, and there was a significant dif...

Objective: Long-term and repetitive use of smartphones may cause musculoskeletal symptoms such as neck pain. This pilot study aimed to examine the effect of smartphone usage on neck pain, disability, and cervical lordosis. Material and Methods: Seventy-eight patients were enrolled in this cross-sectional pilot study. The level of smartphone use was evaluated with the Smartphone addiction scale-short version (SAS-SV). Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire (NBQ), Neck Disability Index (NDI), and 100 mm Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were used to assess pain and disability. Cervical lordosis angle was measured using the Cobb method. Results: A positive significant correlation with low correlation coefficient (r= 0.277, p=0.014; r: 0.295, p=0.009) was determined between SAS-SV and NBQ, and NDI. However, no correlation was found between SAS-SV and cervical lordosis angle (p>0.05). When applying simple linear regression modeling to predict neck pain severity, the SAS-SV total score alone explained...

Relationship between caregiver depression and caregiving burden and cognitive factors Background: This study was designed to investigate the relationship between caregiving burden and negative cognitions. In addition, it was aimed to examine whether there is a difference in negative cognitions between caregiver depression and depression due to other reasons. Method: The study included 52 caregivers and 67 patients diagnosed with major depression due to other causes. Test batteries consist of Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory to assess symptom severity, Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire to detect automatic thoughts, Short form of Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale to determine intermediate beliefs, Social Comparison Scale to determine fundamental beliefs and Zarit Burden Interview to determine caregiver burden. Results: There was a significant relationship between Zarit Burden and Beck Depression Scale (r: 0.814) and a weakly significant relationship with Beck Anxiety Scale (r: 0.397). Negative cognitive factors were not found to be higher in the total score of any scale and subscale in the caregiver group. Conclusions: If we analyze the general findings of our study, we didn't find any striking cognitive structure that differentiates the caregiver depression from the other depression group. Related to this, when explaining depressive symptomatology, it can be assumed that the degree of activation, rather than the presence or absence of negative cognitions, is decisive for the clinic.

Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the analysis of automatic thinking, intermediate beliefs and fundamental beliefs of individuals using social media within the framework of cognitive theories and comparison of cognitive structures according to their addiction levels. In addition, it was aimed to determine the addiction levels and behaviors of individuals using social media in terms of their social problem solving skills. Method: The study included a total of 35 male and 49 female young adults aged 18-25, who did not meet the diagnostic criteria for mood disorder, psychotic disorder or anxiety disorder and who were literate and volunteered for the study, were included. After giving consent to participate in the study, participants were given a Sociodemographic Data Form, Social Problem Solving Inventory-Revised Form (SPSI-R), Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS), Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale Short Form (DAS-SF), Social Comparison Scale (SCS) and Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire (ATQ) as self-test. Results: According to our findings, we found a significant relationship between social media addiction and social problem solving. Particularly, there was a significant relationship between social problem solving, negative problem orientation, avoidance style subscales and social media addiction. Negative cognition was found to be inversely related to positive social problem solving behavior. Conclusion: We think that evaluating negative cognitions and social problem-solving skills may be beneficial in managing social media addiction.

Obesity is a health problem that can exacerbate the symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS). In the current study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a short-term exercise program on fatigue, depression, anxiety, and walking performance in normal-weight and overweight patients with MS (PwMS). Sixty-two PwMS were divided into groups according to their BMI (BMI normal/BMI high). Also, they were all included in the exercise program. The participants took a moderate-intensity walking program 5 days a week for 4 weeks, including 30 min between 5 min of warm-up and 5 min of cooling periods. Also, patients underwent breathing, posture, flexibility, and stretching exercises for 4 weeks. Fatigue, depression, anxiety, 6-minute walking test (6MWT), and BMI were measured before and after the 4 weeks. After the exercise program, there were statistically significant improvements in fatigue, depression, anxiety, and the 6MWT. However, no relation could be detected between the examined variab...
