Publisher Summary Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) contain a circular, double-stranded DNA genome of approximately 8 kb that is usually maintained in an extrachromosomal form at a relatively fixed copy number between 10 and 50. HPVs are responsible for benign epithelial proliferations (warts), and many HPVs are associated with human anogenital cancers, particularly cancer of the cervix. Replication of HPVs requires the viral E1 and E2 proteins and an origin of replication (ori). The ori contains an El-binding site and multiple E2-binding sites. The E1 and E2 proteins encoded by various HPVs are quite homologous. E1 is the replication initiator protein that is involved in the regulation of viral gene expression through its interaction with the E2 protein. This chapter describes the expression of the E1 proteins of HPV types 1a and 18 in mammalian and insect cells and the purification of the HPV-1a E1 protein from insect ceils using a baculovirus vector.

PMMA-Na2SO4 composite films were prepared by a solvent casting method and were characterized by SEM, EDX, DSC, UTM, TG/DTA and FTIR techniques. From the SEM it is clear that Na2SO4 were well dispersed, having sizes ranging from micrometer to nanometer. EDX results confirm the presence of Na2SO4 particles in a polymer matrix. UTM studies show that the tensile strength of

This paper discusses the stability and analysis of meniscus for electrohydrodynamic printing system and printed results on flexible substrate. Conventionally an electrode is inserted vertically into the fluid for generating electric field to induce charges that move towards the surface of the liquid. Disturbances and vibrations in the inkjet head, caused by the application of high electric potential is the

This paper presents the electrospray deposition of solution-based ZnO nanoparticles. Transparent thin film transistors in active matrix displays have become the most interested research area. Electrospray assures direct deposition by eliminating etching steps required after deposition by other techniques. Uniform layers of minimum thickness 87 nm on glass and 356 nm on polyimide using electrospray experiment is achieved. Contact angle analyzer has been used for finding properties like wetting energy, spreading coefficient and work of adhesion of the ink on glass and polyimide substrates. All experiments were performed in ambient conditions.

An attempt is made to study the multiplicity distributions of different charged secondaries, the dispersions of their distributions, and intercorrelations between them in 12C-nucleus reactions at 4.5 GeV per nucleon. The results reveal that the value of [Formula: see text] does not depend on the projectile mass. The constancy of [Formula: see text] shows that, irrespective of the amount of average energy imparted to the target nuclei for their excitation, the temperature of the residual nucleus never exceeds some critical temperature. However, the value of [Formula: see text] is found to increase with increasing mass of the projectile. This observation is in accord with the prediction of the fireball model. The angular distribution of charged shower particles in terms of the pseudorapidity variable, η, was also investigated. The results suggest that there are different degrees of stopping for different thicknesses of the nuclear matter traversed by the projectile. In general, our re...

Some patients presenting with subacromial impingement syndrome complain of tingling and numbness radiating to hand. In the current literature, there is no description of such paresthesia being a part of the clinical picture of impingement syndrome. This observational study aimed at looking whether these symptoms resolve with successful arthroscopic decompression of the impingement. One hundred consecutive patients undergoing arthroscopic surgery were enlisted for the study. Fifty-four percent reported paresthesia during the course of the shoulder problem (63% of them had radial sided symptoms, 29.6% ulnar-sided symptoms and 7.4% involving all fingers). Significant association was observed between the occurrence of paresthesia and worst pain levels (P = 0.0053), age of the patient (P = 0.0104) and the acromial impingement grade (P = 0.0377). Nerve conduction studies done in seven patients (with paresthesia) selected by systematic random sampling did not show any significant attributable entrapment neuropathy. Up to 12 months follow-up, 48 of 54 (88%) had complete relief of pain and paresthesia and 50 (92.5%) were satisfied. Some patients with subacromial impingement syndrome report associated peripheral paresthesia radiating to hand, which is strongly associated with the age, pain level and the grade of impingement. In most (88%) of such cases, these symptoms are relieved after treatment of the impingment lesion. The incidence and aetiology of such paresthesia is the subject of further studies.
